Hi all
I was diagnosed with breast cancer aged 34 on 31 may 2007 but on 17th march 08 was diagnosed with secondary in the brain. I just finished radiotherapy to the breast area on 18th march and would like to speak to anyone who has or is undergoing radiotherapy to the brain. I am being sent for further scans on the rest of my body and as far as i know they want to start herceptine asap. If you could shed any light i would most appreciate.
Hi Angie I’m sorry to hear your news. There are some older postings you might find useful from a lady called KitKat, they should be available if you type her name in the search facility at the top of this page. She wrote during her brain radiotherapy…and had very good results from her treatment.
A couple of friends have had gamma knife…I think it’s sometimes an option if you have a small number of brain secondaries. There’s some info (sorry if you already know about gamma treatment!) here, shef.ac.uk/~ns/ Good Luck and Love Belinda…xx
Hi Angie
So sorry to hear your news … you are in the same boat as my daughter Lisa. She is to start Whole Brain Rads very soon possibly next week … you are the same age group too. She too was diagnosed with breast cancer last May. I have been posting under ‘secondary breast cancer’ about her. She had one very large tumour in the front as well as a smaller one in the back of her head. She had surgery last Sunday for the large one and is doing well and is now at home … all the bruising is now coming around her eyes. She looks like a boxer who has gone 10 rounds! She had been having dreadful headaches and was really quite ill before going in on Sunday but the relief after the op was immediate. We have to see the surgeon next Tuesday for the results and to find when rads start. When do yours start? What type of cancer do you have? Lisa has IBC.
Thinking about you and know exactly what you are going through being there ourselves.
Love Sue x
Thanks for that Belinda dont know what gamma is but will have a good look at it. Belinda I have IBC with her2++++ and oestrogen ++++ and progestrone++++ they said that because there are more than one secondary on the brain and because of were they are they couldnt even biopsy never mind operate. I only finished my radiotherapy to my breast on tuesday and they are doing my brain rads simulator on wednesday 26th march so i take it they will start the following week. I hope Lisa continues to improve and my thoughts are with you.
thanks again keep me informed
Love AngelaXX
Hi
I’m now 44. was dx Apr 05 with primary and liver mets. Had FEC, then herceptin and arimidex. Very well until Jan 08 when diagnosed with 3cm mass on right side of brain.Herceptin was then stopped.
Had widespread brain radiotherapy - 2 sessions which ended 25 jan. Wasn’t too bad - although after 2 weeks lost my hair. Felt tired but not as bad as with chemo. Unfortunately I’ve just become unwell again and I’m on 6mg of steroids. await to see Docs - this time I’ll probably go onto chemo again.
By the way the steroids really made me hyper, so it’s nice to have energy. I’m also hoping that we get away for afew days next week - weather permitting !
Take care
