Rant...

I had a lumpectomy on 25/4/17 and went back to see consultant who told me it hadn’t been successful (they thought it was 6mm but once inside, they took 5.5cm but it wasn’t enough). Arranged mastectomy for 17/5/17 but after MDT they decided to cancel it and said I should  go for another test…mri biopsy… in the other breast as they found an abnormality in it in the initial mri. Have to go to a different health authority. Was referred 12/5/17- I have rung them every day (several times a day) to chase up the appointment but every time I am told that my name is not on the system so they can’t book me in. Makes me so angry that they are playing with my life. I know for a fact that the referral has been sitting on the new consultant’s desk since 17/5/17 because they rang my consultant querying some thing on that date. I am sure that if I was the partner/daughter of the new consultant, I’d have been in pronto. First diagnosed on 24th March and its already gone 2months… but it feels like a lifetime! I wish they’d get a shake on and get me sorted…going to be at least another 5+ weeks before I can have the surgery (that’s if I get the mri biopsy done mid June… . Grr! Sorry about that…just wanted a rant where someone listens.

If you ring the main telephone number of the hospital and ask to be put through to the PALS (Patient Advice and Liaison Service) team, explain to them what has happened or not as the case!! they are obliged to follow up your complaint.

Hi, just popping in to see how you are today

I complained to PALS on advice of my BCN because my surgery was 5 weeks away and hospital couldn’t get me in any quicker.
As it happens it didn’t make much difference. I was eventually offered surgery a week earlier, but different hospital further away and different surgeon. I kept original surgery date. BUT I was phoned several times and they did all do their best to bring surgery forward. It just didn’t happen because of weight of patients and hospital capacity. I did at least feel they were aware and trying. I ended up getting surgery 80 days from diagnosis.
Sounds like you need them to take up your cause ASAP. Good luck.

News flash! After 64 (yes, 64) phone calls, I have been offered a cancellation for next week (8th) for my mri biopsy. Been in touch with my consultant who is going to book me to see her with all my results on 23/6 and then surgery on 5/7… still a long while off (these past 2weeks seem to have lasted 16 weeks at least) but at least I have got some dates to play with now…
