Hi girls
For those of you who work for large companies / governement, it may be worth you checking out whether your company allows Disability Adjustment Leave (DAL). I work for civil service and quite a lot of the leave I needed for Chemo and Rads was covered by this. And heres the good bit it doesnt count in the reckoning for amount of sick leave taken, so could for some of you postpone when you go onto half pay / SSP. Check it out and make sure you have any previous leave adjusted if you can have this

Morning Everyone, hope you’ve all had a good weekend. I rang the Macmillan Cancer Support and a very nice lady sent me a form for the Blue Badge Application and she has contacted a local nurse who will sort out the application for the DLA. So thanks everyone for you help, really appreciate it.
My Company has paid me again in full this month. It’s very nice to get, but I’m worried in case they ask for it back at some stage. I’ve sent my sick notes in as required, but they just seem to keep sending it.
Anyway, hope you are all feeling good today. It’s a lovely morning here so I’m going shopping with my friend. Had my 8th chemo yesterday and apart from lack of sleep due to the Steroids, I feel fine at the moment, so making the most of it.
Take care of yourselves everyone, talk soon, love and hugs to all.

Hi all, I applied for DLA with help of Welfare Benefits macmillan officer and was turned down. I applied in January and because my chemo was scheduled to end at the middle of June they declined my app on basis that I didnt meet the basic timescale requirements. No mention of my care needs or anything just that I didnt meet the requirement to still have the condition for another six months. I was two weeks out.
Since then I have been diagnosed with secondaries so a reconsideration was requested and I have been turned down again. I cant understand it as I now have the condition for life and have had a lot of symptomatic probs and fatigue and other not so pleasant difficulties. I think its going to appeal now so fingers crossed but it seems everybody I spk to is getting it no prob. Not sure if being younger makes them think i am at it.
Also, wanted to ask if any of you have made a claim on life insurance under terminal illness. I have a feeling they are going to argue its not terminal cos i dont have a timescale to give them. They asked how long and I said well they dont know. Its just being controlled for the time being.
anyone else any advice or experience in this area? We arent having much luck with applications for anything. We always get turned down for some reason yet my friend who is young is getting everything and she is currenlty in remission adn working so i just dont get it.
Hi Signet, (I’ve just been writing on the other post to you about how you feel re the Mac nurses etc)
With regard to this DLA, I know what you mean, it’s all very confusing as we are told that anyone with secondaries is entitled to this whether you work or not. Mine is still in the application process so I don’t know yet what will happen. I don’t know anything about claiming benefits of any kind as I’ve never done it, so can’t help much really. Also, I’ve never claimed on Life Insurance, didn’t know you could. I don’t know whether you are classed as Terminal either. I thought I was because it’s secondary and there’s no cure, but I was told that because it’s treatable and we can live for many years, it’s not terminal. Apparently terminal is when you are given a number (for example 6 months) and you are not getting any treatment apart from palliative. Anyway, once again, I do hope you are feeling a bit better today, you’re not dying hon, just putting up with an ongoing illness and will hopefully be around to see your lovely family grow up. Take care and be good to yourself. Lotsa love, Dianne x x x
