RE: Should I fear the worst?

Dear ladies,

My onco. surgeon, pushed by my GP, send me for a CT scan, (abdomen and lungs) to rule out the possibilities of mets., he even said in a letter that he thought the test weren’t necessary. Well, I had the scan last Thursday and my appointment for results was the 2cd of November. Just 1 hour ago I got a call from the hospital moving forward my appointment to this coming Weds because they cannot see me on the 2cd. My first thought was “Oh my God/ess I am dying!”, so I asked if this had something to do with my CT scan the results and the lady on the phone told me that they said the results would be available on Weds morning and has nothing to do with it. Obviously my heart beating is rising by the minute and I am quite shaky as I remember a similar experience in the past. What do you think?, have you ever been called to put forward your appointments because they showed cancer, mets or whatever?

xx

Hi hairynipple, i know that hospitals can change their minds about appts. When i was waiting for my results of my op i was given a date then they rang & changed it, i immediately thought the worst & questioned the receptionist who said it was because the clinic had been changed. I was still worried but needn’t have been as it was good results & she was right, it was just that the clinic date needed to be altered. I would have thought that’s all it is with your appt but pls let us know how u get on x

Hi - I have had this as well and got good news , xx

Relax and try and not go into overdrive

First of all, I would like to thank you all for your support and your encouragement. I went today to the clinic and everything was fine with the CT scan so, that is a big relieve. The only thing is I would like to have some therapy after this before I come back to work. This is something that I have always postponed because I found difficult to juggle all my commitments, (work, studies, social life), but, I think I have hit a point where I really need some copying strategies to deal with this on the long run. I would like to know your experiences and opinions about psychotherapy and if you have any recommendations please let me know.

Hi Happynipple,

Glad it was fine with your CT scan - you must have felt bugely relieved.

Just wanted to say that I have found psychotherapy very helpful in the past and since being diagnosed, have been referred to a psychologsit for some sessions to help me process what has happened and develop some coping strategies. I’ve only been for the assessment so far but I’m really hoping it will be helpful. She works for the oncology dept so specialises in working with people diagnosed/living with cancer. In my opinion and experience it can only help to share life’s traumas, as long as its with the right person! Maybe your BCN or local Macmillan could help?

Hope that helps.

Good luck!

I think psychotherapy is useful.During this whole process there is such a lot to figure out. Friends and relatives, however kind, often have their own “hidden agendas” and the good thing about a psychotherapist is that, generally, they are objective.I really liked mine when he told me that some things I thought and believed seemed quite natural, and gave me support at a really difficult time. I`m in favour! Sometimes we dont talk about really deep and meaningful things, just the events of the week, but it really helps!
