Reaction to Emend

Has anyone had an allergic reaction to Emend at all? I took it for the first time with my 4th FEC and had no problems, except I turned into a zombie! However when I had it with the 5th I had the big dose on the Wednesday, then took the 2nd tablet the next morning. Within half an hour my body had turned red from head to foot and my face had started swelling. I was given anti-histamines by my gp which started working straight away, but I have now been told that I won’t be able to have Emend again as my body has built up a resistance to it, and I will react worse if I take it again.
I am so glad my next cycle is the last as I don’t know if I can cope with any more side effects and reaction. I don’t know what they will do about the sickness next time as the only times I haven’t been sick were when I had the Emend.

so sorry that you have been going through this. Could you have different anti sickness meds instead??

Ive finished my chemo now, but i used to take Emend (which i know you cant take now), dexemethesone, metroclopramide, ondansetron for around 3-4 days.

hope your next cycle goes easier for you,
eva

I have had all sorts of antisickness drugs so far. Cyclazine, dextomethosone (sp), ondansatron, donperadrone, becanese, something beginging with l that goes under the top lip. I have to have the first ondansatron and dextomethosone through the picc line before chemo, to get it in quickly. The donperadrone is a suppository as I couldn’t keep the tablets down.

Still, the next one is the last so if I am sick, I am sick - as long as I don’t end up back in hospital like the first time.
