Really Heavy Period/Bleeding Help

Hi Everyone. I am due my 2nd chemo on Friday. Was due my period two weeks ago but it didnt happen. Today I have started bleeding but it is clotting badly. Not a very nice subject I know but I am very worried. Have period pains and headache, weak but no temperature. Is this normal? Alison x

Phone your chemo ward hon. I don’t know cos chemo stopped my periods but they’ll advise you. Jo XX

Always best to phone your chemo ward if in doubt - my chemo nurses have said to me ‘if it’s enough to worry you, it’s enough to phone us about’ - so don’t feel you can’t ring them.

Having said that, my period started the day before my #1FEC - and though it started out normally, it was horrendous by day three, very heavy, clotty etc, much worse than normal - I just put it down to all the extra crap in my system, and it went, finished as normal.

Have had two lots of FEC now, and period was a week late arriving (just as I was hoping it wouldn’t happen at all), and this time around was fine. It may well have something to do with all the extra poison floating around our systems - but if it’s made you anxious enough to ask on here for help, do ring your chemo ward for more reassurance. It does seem that so much focus is given to whether or not periods stop, that advice on how the chemo may otherwise affect menstrual cycles is overlooked.

i was on epi first and although didnt have periods cos i had a mirena coil in i did get one really bad one around about the time of my 2nd or 3rd chemo… then never had another one for a year.

but like the others have said… its always best to get things checked out if your worried.

Hi Alimbutt
I have no clue about why your period has gone haywire I didn’t have chemo. However as a menopausal person I have had very heavy periods. A bit of practical help. My OH suggested I use Tena lady pants to hold night time sanitary towels. It meant leaking in any direction was delt with and meant I wasn’t washing sheets or jamas.
I would never have thought of it.

Thanks Guys, Tena pants great idea. x Alison
