@enia1703 so sorry to hear that after all your waiting the news wasn’t what you hoped for. I really hope you’ll share your news with friends and family now as much as it’s hard to say the support you receive is amazing and it will lift you up. When do you get your biopsy results?
My appointment with surgeon was So long. But she was great and answered every single one of my questions. The information was a lot to take in, wires for locating and radioactive sugar injection pre surgery (@foxgem did you have this too?) I was properly examined for the first time. Am having a 4cm Lumpectomy. Most importantly they offered me 2 dates, one Jan 8th.. and a Christmas one nxt Tues 23rd!! We said yes to it and find out tomorrow if they can get the pre-surgery appointments in time. Once we know we can rearrange a few things.. weird tonight not quite knowing.
Big hug to you @enia1703 and thank goodness you have been seen now xx
Thank you @al1kat a very long but informative chat with the surgeon. I will find out today if my surgery is speedily on 23rd .. my Christmas stockings will be of the surgical variety if so! How are things going for you?
Thank you so much @anxiouslyawaiting as much as you think you’re prepared it’s a tough conversation when it comes. Unfortunately whilst I was in the clinic and my husband was in the waiting area he found out his dad has aggressive cancer, his biopsy results came back yesterday, such a horrible time. His parents live in England so he’ll not get to see them til after Christmas at least.
I had a doctor and a specialist nurse give me the results yesterday and couldn’t think of any questions, I should have written them down, I was too busy positive thinking that I wasn’t properly prepared. I will be getting my treatment from a different hospital but they gave me their direct details incase I have any questions or need support when I’m waiting for full results so I know I can call if I need to.
Really glad your surgeon was thorough and helpful, did you have options for the surgery or have they just one preferred that you go with depending on your type? Amazing how quickly they can get you in, hopefully they can get all the pre op things done and you can get it over you. I’m sure it’s pretty daunting having it so quickly in a way as well! Thinking of you
Thank you so much @al1kat How are you getting on at the minute? It’s still a bit of a wait for your results isn’t it?
I had 4 biopsies in total, two from breast lump and two from different lymph nodes, I know what you mean about it being better to know, into another wait now for detail and then probably more waiting for scans after that - the nurse said they’ll likely want a scans at my next hospital to see any spread but also reminded me to remain as rational as possible, I am currently fit and healthy day to day so to focus on that.
Yes I had the same. The wires didn’t go in very smoothly for me as my radiologist said how fibrous my boobs were but and thats a big but, despite that I think it was easier than the biopsies.
The injection they did whilst I was under anesthesia. This has left a blue patch on my boob that will go eventually.
The dye left me looking a little bit yellow after the operation and then I had bright blue pee for a day and a half. I was drinking so much to flush it out.
Erm… a bit more information you might not want or need… I also had a blue poo
Apologies for anyone that didnt want to know that. Its not a detail I will forget for a while though haha
Goodness you are all being tested this year arent you. Sending you big hugs
One thing I have learnt the last few months is how much tougher we all are when we have to be. Our brains want us to feel weaker at times, I think this is just to protect ourselves. When push comes to shove we are strong
That sounds awful. I’m so sorry about your husband’s father. Its awful how it all happens at once. My appointment to find out results etc is next Tuesday but I’ve just missed a call from one of the Breast Cancer Nurse’s. The voice message she left said she was phoning to update me on my plan, but I can’t phone her directly, and she hasn’t returned my call yet so I’m feeling very nervous again, in case she’s phoning to say biopsies weren’t good and I need a full body scan.
Edited to add update: nurse has phoned back. Biopsy results are back and my case was discussed at their multidisciplinary team meeting this morning. The surgeon is on leave this week, but because my results show that it’s lobular cancer and strongly hormone receptive (the ER score is 8 apparently which is the highest and the PR score is also positive) she wants my GP to prescribe hormone blockers immediately to stop it growing further while I wait. I also need an MRI scan because lobular is apparently much harder to see properly on mammograms. The good news is that it’s HER2 negative and there’s no sign of lymph node involvement. The appointment next week will probably be rearranged until after the scan. Given that I’m starting hormone treatment immediately and I know the type etc, even if the staging won’t be available until after the MRI then that’s fine by me . And there was me panicking that it must be bad news!
That’s so interesting to know about the wires (and the blue poo!) . I’m so glad to hear you have a date for your operation next week @anxiouslyawaiting . Everything feels more manageable when you have a treatment plan doesn’t it.
