Recalled to Breast Screening Clinic

Recalled to Breast Screening Clinic

Recalled to Breast Screening Clinic Hi,

I recently spent a long time on this forum as I was having my right breast looked at because of a lump. The outcome was very good and they decided it was not cancerous. I was pleased to talk to you all about it. Only trouble is - Five weeks ago I got the standard letter from the breast screening unit asking me to attend the mammogram for the 50 and over. I am 50 this year. I decided to go as they only looked at my right breast last year. I had the mammogram done five weeks ago, and thought I was ok as I hadn’t heard anything. I have got home today to find a letter asking me to attend the breast clinic in Luton as they wanted to do further tests!!! I am now panicking, as I had a lump in my left breast 6 years ago, and had a core biopsy done on it then. That came back ok. As my right breast is ok, I am now worrying that my left breast has another lump. Does this happen a lot where they call you back or does anyone think I have a more serious problem? Would appreciate your help as don’t want to worry anyone at home.

For Ronnie Hi Ronnie

I’m sorry you haven’t had any replies to your question up to now. Can I suggest that you give the BCC helpline a call where you can speak to one of the nurses about your individual concerns. The number to call is 0808 800 6000, the lines are open Monday to Friday 9am - 5pm Saturdays 9am - 2pm.

I hope this helps.

Kind Regards

Thank you, may call them tomorrow, bit worried about bothering people though

Hi! Hi Ronnie,

I know it’s very hard but I don’t think you’re going to find any answers to your situation until you go for your hospital appointment. Have you got long to wait? You will know from previous appointments that it’s the waiting which is the hardest part. Try to stay positive. Keep busy. Share your concerns with close family or friends because you need support at this time and someone to talk to. Hopefully your appointment will be soon so you won’t be worrying for too long.

Best wishes

Hi Francine,

Thanks for your comments. I received my letter on Thursday last week and my Hospital appointment is on Tuesday 13th so not long to wait. Was feeling positive yesterday, but today, keep wondering why I have been called back, if everything was ok, I would have got an ok letter. I have been poorly for three years now with psoriatic arthritis and I am now registered disabled. The thought of another cross to bear is a bit much today. Thankfully only two days to wait. As you say, won’t really know until I get there. Thank you for your concern, will let you know the outcome on Tuesday. I have had a dull ache in my left side for quite a while now and the doc has put it down to my arthritis, I am now wondering whether it is anything to do with my breast. All sorts go through your mind at this stage. Roll on Tuesday, the sun is shining today, but I am not.

Hi Francine,

I find the only way I can look at situations like this is to be thankful that you are being checked. It is better that they spot something rather than miss it altogether.
Mine wasn’t a lump just tiny white flecks which looked like icing sugar. A wire was inserted for the surgeon to locate the area as it could not be seen. It was very early grade 3 cancer. I had surgery, chemo and rads.
When I was told I had breast cancer I thanked the radiographers for finding it and giving me an opportunity to get treatment and survive it.
The waiting is the worst part of all the treatment.
I waited for my results with four other people when I was recalled with a dodgy mammogram. All the other ladies were fine.
They have to be sure that everything is o.k.
Keep taking deep breaths and try and stay positive.
Good luck and let us know how you get on.
