I have recently been diagnosed with bc had a lump removed that was 2 1/2 cm grade 3 but the margins were clear and luckily so were the lymph nodes. Have just seen my oncologist and I have to have 6 fec chemotherapy followed by 15 radiotherapy and them tamoxifen for 5 years. First chemotherapy Is next week and I’m feeling nervous as don’t know what to expect. But worst thing is I’ve been told my hair will fall out and not coping with that one very well but still I will just deal with that when it happens. Would b very grateful if anyone could give me any info on what to expect from treatment.
Sorry you’ve had to join us but you’ve come to the right place. There is a thread called starting chemo in Oct, you will have good company there with others going through the same as you, with lots of advice etc. For more light hearted relief please join in the Dark Dark Woods thread where you will be very welcome.
It is all rather terrifying when you don’t know what to expect but it is doable so try not to feel scared (easier said than done I know)
I am currently undergoing chemo 6 x EC. I had my first treatment 18 days ago, and have so far no had many bad side effects. I have experienced tiredness, felt a bit spaced out for a few days, lost my tastebuds for a week (but have now returned) and now my hair has started to part company with me, but I am feeling generally OK about it - would have preferred it not to go, but I just keep thinking next year it will grow back
I am starting my chemo next week, seen the oncologist today and I am having 6 sessions but not sure what sort. Does anyone know how long it will take for the chemo appointment?
my first appointment was about two hours but that was only because it was my first time and nurses were a bit busy. The actual treatment only lasted about 40 minutes but i did only have two drugs used in my treatment (EC). Treatment time will be longer if you use the cold cap to prevent hair loss though
