Recently diagnosed

Hi

Recently diagnosed (23rd August) with grade 3 breast cancer, CT scan clear, biopsy’s show 2 tumours so I need a full mastectomy.  I’ve been given the choice of having reconstructive work done at the same time of mastectomy, of which I’ve agreed to but I am now worried that my decision to do so may delay any radio/chemo that I might need, allowing the cancer to spread between surgeries. I’m due to have a sentinel node biopsy on the 27th Sept and the mastectomy and recon work around the 16th Oct, reassurance or personal experience of same decision would be welcome ? Thanks x

Hi Gabriel01,

Hopefully you’ll get some responses on here, however I also just wanted to let you know that we have a number of volunteers available for you to speak with over the telephone, who have all had a similar treatment path to what you are considering. If you think you would like to speak to someone over the telephone, you can call us on 0114 2636490 and a member of our team will be happy to discuss this with you. In the meantime, I wish you all the best.

Kindest regards

Dee, Someone Like Me

Hi Gabriel, sorry you find yourself here.  I think it’s unlikely that a recon would delay any rads or chemo as there are strict timing protocols for each treatment.  Here’s my story which has lots of useful tips too: Lifeafterlola.com

my situation was a bit different to yours but I’m sure you will be able to relate to the emotional experience.  Once your treatment plan is in place you can chat with others going through the same on the “going through treatment” threads on this forum. Sending hugs. Xxx
