Reconstruction Information Session

I recently attended the information session on reconstruction held in Liverpool. It was extremely refreshing to get information on all the options for reconstruction, who they are suitable for, and all the pro’s and con’s of each option. This information was presented to us (along with photographs) by a very considerate and humourous consultant. I can’t help but now think that all women when diagnosed and offered reconstruction should be provided with a DVD containing a presentation almost identical to what we were shown. When an important decision has to be made you need to know all the options and all the information for each one along with the time to make that decision and I am sure this would aid the decision making for many women.

Thank you Breast Cancer Care for arranging the event.

I have an appointment at the reconstruction clinic at Glenfield, Leicester, next month. I have been given a DVD made by the hospital to view prior to this appointment. It describes the operations available, has interviews with patients and staff, and describes the hospital process.

Ladies

This is really good to hear. It sounds as if these information sessions should be held at every hospital offering such surgery.

I hope BCC will take up the cause of campaigning for the same high stabndard everywhere because their sessions are too infrequent and a DVD would be just the thing to start the process and get women thinking about what’s available (locally or elsewhere) and what might be suitable for them.

Loud applause …
