I’ve been told i need a mastectomy and i want reconstruction at the same time. I also have horses and want to be active again ASAP afterwards.
Are there any riders out there who’ve had reconstruction?
What type did you have and did wanting to be back with the horses influence what type of reconstruction you had?
How long was it before you could get back in the saddle?

I had mx with immediate LD recon last June. My surgeon was very happy to start running again 6 weeks post surgery. To be honest I felt I could’ve started again sooner but decided not to push it and wait for his permission.

I had an mx and immediate LD flap recon. I was back on a horse, very gently, after 9 weeks.
I didn’t have enough fat for the tummy options - and I didn’t like the idea of losing core strength.
The LD flap takes a bit of getting over/used to, but my cosmetic result is great.
When making your decision, don’t forget that you’ll be living with your ‘new’ boob for a long time. So don’t let not being able to ride for a few weeks influence you too much.
