I was first diagnosed in 2000 grade 1 had a lumpectomy, now diagnosed again in Edinburgh awaiting confirmation, but told it is definate, and how to have a mastectomy, don’t know which kind of reconstruction to go for,ant advice would be welcomed, I have been told that Mike Dixon is excellent ,anyone heard of him. I live near Falkirk so anyone near me would be good

Sorry to hear you’re back here too. I had a recurrence after 5.5yrs, in my lymph nodes.
The good thing is that it’s been a long time since the first cancer, which means it’s not too aggressive (I’m sure you know that, esepcially with it being grade 1). I also had a mx and axillary clearance. Do you know about your nodes yet?
Very best of luck with the treatment. I can’t help re surgeons or recon as I haven’t had any yet plus am not in Edinburgh but will be interseted to hear what you go for. xxx Jane

I had an mx and LD recon carried out at St Johns on 20th Aug. still trying to come to terms with it but on the whole it was not nearly as bad as i had imagined it would be. It’s early days yet and it still has to settle so at the moment i am pretty lopsided but I must say, I have relatively little scarring on my breast -really just around the nipple - not sure how they managed to get everything in and out such a small area but very grateful they did - my surgeon was lovely - really nice and easy to talk to and very caring - I understand we are not allowed to mention professionals by name on this site.

Evelyn ,I have just changed surgeon to MD as mine retired.He is a world renowned breast surgeon,who travels widely to talk at conferences and learn the latest developements.
I saw him for my follow-up on Wednesday and was delighted with him.He is very keen that my 2 year old recon should look better and is liasing with my plastic surgeon over what can be done.He is a very thorough man and a bit of a perfectionist.No bad thing!
