Red face and neck after FEC

Hi All

Had my first FEC last friday. Face and neck went really red saturday pm, then every day late afternoon same thing happens. doesnt itch or anything. Anyone else have similar?
Thanks
Cathy

Hiya

Got this with both fec and tax. Called it the Chemo glow. Thought it was the epirubicin, but as I got it on tax too it is probably the steroids. I loomed liked a beetroot lollipop, very glam. My face used to feel hot but no temp. Told my unit, they were not bothered. I would still mention it if I were u, just toe on the safe side, but I think it is quite common.

Me too. One evening & following morning with FEC1, a couple of evenings with FEC2. It does appear to be a side effect of one of the steroids, though I can’t remember which at the moment.

Hi there,
Same thing happened to me, FEC 1, boiled face, neck and blotchy arms, this lasted the 4 days I was on Steroids and Anti-sickness tabs.

FEC2 I was on 4 day steroids again but not anti-sickness, again that attractive boiled look but it was not as intense, and it was only for couple of days. Maybe it gets less over treatment or it is an individual thing.

FEC 3 later this month, be interesting to see if it is less or not. I did use cool wet face cloth on FEC 1 n 2…
Hope it helps you to know you are not alone.

Hiya Cathy,
I had my 1st FEC last thurs and I’ve been doing a good impression of traffic lights since then. It happened about every hour to start but, now I’m off the steroids, it’s now down to once or twice a day.
I’d mention it to your BCN or Onc, just to check, but it does appear to be side effect. I think they need to know so they have some idea how you’re reacting.
Hope you are feeling ok other than this.

Yes, I call it my “beetroot phase” when steriods are being taken and then mine goes away after a couple of days - hope yours calms down soon

Cathy

The point Helen made about mentioning this at your next appointment is a good one.

Hi when I was on chemo I had to have injections in my tummy not sure what for but one of the side effects even the parmasist 2 hours to find was called sweets disease. Dont know if ifs the same thing but I was totally red all over.

Best of luck Ann B xx

I’ve had my pre-chemo visit today (FEC 1 next Tuesday) and the ‘Chemo Glow’ described here is listed on the leaflet I was given on probable/possible/rare SE. I usually get something similar with my first gulp of cider
