Reintroducing myself

Hi,

I don’t know where the time went since I last posted. Which must be a few months now.

I recovered from my operation and went back to work in February after the half term.
I had my five sessions of radiotherapy Easter Monday and the remaining of that week.

I had been unwell on and off with gastric issues - non related. Which I’ve now had meds for and it is better than it was.

I went for a job interview and didn’t get the job, but then did :joy::joy::joy: as the person they offered it to declined. I start tomorrow.

I’m slowly going out more and returning to a new normal.

I have my prescription for my hormone tablets to collect - but, giving myself a few weeks to get in to the new job as the hour changes and new role will affect me. Even though it is for a better move overall.

It hasn’t been easy, and there will always be waves. But, I wanted to say hello - I have thought of you - but, just didn’t post. I hope you are doing the best you can and giving yourself grace on whichever part of this journey you are on.

Hi Hen,

I just wanted to say good luck with the new job and that it is early days on your recovery. But you will get back to normal. I thought I would never fret about the small stuff after I finished treatment or get cross about minor issues. A few (very few) years down the line and with three children and a new job, everything seemed as it was before and all those small things annoyed me again. I did get hot flushes from the hormone therapy but mainly in the evenings.

Be kind to yourself, rest when you need to and you will get back to your old self.

Sending hugs xxx

Thank you, today went well in the new job.

Did you find taking meds in the morning or evening make a difference?

Im pleased to hear you are doing well. X

I always took them in the mornings, 5 years of Tamoxifen and then 5 years of Letrazole.
I was cancer free for 24 years, but it then came back - secondary breast cancer. My oncologist said it probably started to come back 4 or 5 years after finishing the Letrazole but at that time it was not prescribed for longer. I now wish I’d been able to stay on it as there were no real side effects apart from the hot flushes.
I am doing ok, though, and have just started a new treatment.

Good luck to you and I hope you find the Letrazole manageable. xx

Good luck with your new treatment. I was told recently that the cancer will come back gradually after stopping Letrazole. I haven’t started the Letrazole yet. About six weeks since operation as still get quite a bit of pain and waiting for it to settle down.

Hoping all goes very well for you. With love, X

That’s all reassuring. I had my op in March and had meeting about having 5 days of Radiotherapy. Not started and still not sure about it. I still get a lot of pain from the operation come in waves. How was it doing the Radiotherapy sessions for you?

At the moment I am waiting for the exhaustion and pain to settle a bit more. Very impressed you have recovered so quickly. Well done and good luck with your new job.

Think you are wise to wait to begin letrazole. I am sure you will do very well on it.

wishing you continued good health and nice to hear some good news. X

Thank you and I hope you manage the Letrazole well. Some people do change brands if one doesn’t suit, but I’ve had all sorts and no difference for me. I do get aches and pains this time round, but didn’t the first time when I was much younger. I suspect the aches and pains might be old age!

Best of luck. xx

The radiotherapy was fine. No issues - I used the cream they gave me and moo goo which I had been using anyway. The udder cream. I got slightly red. And if it was a bit itchy I put extra cream on, stayed hydrated and didn’t have any other issues. I have been a bit tired on and off - big, not exhausted like they say. I have had quite a bit going on and changing job… good luck with the radiotherapy- the ‘setting up ‘ in place is longer than the sessions.

Thank you - you too

Hey - how are you?

I’m hanging in there and holding on tight  Half way through chemotherapy, holding on to my short boy hair but I have to make sure I dont wash it, brush it or look at it or it falls out. Found out I have the mutant BRCA2 gene which means I’m hopefully going to be offered a double mastectomy after chemotherapy. Will then go on to have my ovaries and tubes out at some point depending on what the genetics team say.

It’s fair to say its still a rollercoaster but one I’m glad to be on. Getting all the right things done to get through

How many more sessions do you have?

Good idea to not look at your hair!

Husband is having fun with his as he always had it shaved quite short before and now he has waves and curls… he has to have a proper haircut. Hates going so somehow our daughters ended up doing it!

I hope you are taking plenty of rest and being kind to yourself and also… keeping up with the cancer made me buy… and treating yourself. X

Hi, Foxgem, glad you are halfway through your chemo sessions and doing well. Your update was a whole lot to take in. That’s strong emotional territory you are dealing with there as well as the physical. Certainly a rollercoaster and great you are getting all the treatments you need. Sending you much love for the rest of this journey for the best outcomes and feel you are on your right path and all will flow well for you. XX
