Relay for Life

Hi all just wanted to ask if there are any people in N. Ireland who would be prepared to attend the Relay For Life I am organising.

We are looking for anyone who has had a dx of any form of cancer as long as they feel well enough to attend.

The message for the relays is that of the hope to find a cure which is why we have ‘survivors’ there.

If so can you let me know if you can attend and I will pm for details.

Thanks
L

PS Although I am chair I will be classed as a survivor even though I will only be 2/3 way through my chemo.

Quite right too L - you are a survivor alright!

Sorry not in N Ireland. But wish you all the best with organising the Relay of Life - you are an amazing individual!

Thanks Suzie, I hope people will look and see if there are events in their areas too as there are loads all over the UK, they even had one at Royal Ascot at the weekend.

I doubt I’ll wear the survivor t-shirt as at that point I doubt I’ll feel like that but next year it will be worn with pride.
Until now I didn’t really understand why it is soo important to have survivors take part, now I know it has helped me a bit in this journey and it has helped my eldest son too.
I just need to get my finger out and organise the thin properly LOL.

May ask Silver for some tips she’s a pro.

Hi Leeloo

There is a Northern ireland forum on BCPals if you are trying to find some local people to attend your event.

Good luck!!

Can you pm me a link please thanks?

are there ever international relay races? The American Cancer Society has Relay races…but wondered if there was a day when they were coordinated at once???/

it would be esp nice to do it with you as we have walked thru this bc together!

Hi Em,
No because they are volunteer led it is up to the organisers to determine when they do them. They take place all summer all over the world.
I don’t even know a link to send you to find if there is one in your area that weekend, if there was we could do a link up at some point or swap t-shirts or something.
I will look into it for you hunny.

Love as always

Just want to say good luck with your relay - if it hasn’t happened already. If it has hope it went well.

I took part in the Ascot relay as a team captain and we had a great time. Ironically my diagnosis came two weeks before the event. I was asked if I wanted to take part as a survivor but couldn’t face it at that point - next year perhaps.

Hi, lah60, I was at the Ascot Relay for an hour or so on the Sunday, I just knew that I would be back… hoping to go in 2009 for the whole 24 hours as a survivor. Have seen the official photos on the website - great!

It was a great event - we are the team doing the conga in the photos!. Not doing the whole event next year as we have other commitments but I will be there as a survivor

Loved the steel band! We raised 88,5000 at the event which was brilliant. Here’s to the survivors lap next year

Yeah you lot did fantastic this year. Our was reduced this year due to me changing dates because of my diagnosis ut we think we got over £14,000.
I wore my survivor t-shirt but felt weird in it, don’t feel like a cancer patient never mind a survivor.

It was tough enough as I had my 4th chemo (1st docetaxol) on the Wed before but we had a ball and have our date set for 2009.

Hope you all enjoy next year
xoxo
