Hi to you all
Just a quick question. I finished my 6xFEC in February this year, but in the last couple of months, I have had 5 water infections, all needing antibiotics to clear them, so now the GP is referring me for a scan of my kidneys and bladder.
Has anyone else had this problem, and do you think it is the after effects of the chemo?
I have never had this sort of trouble before, and wonder if there are any tips anyone could give me. I already do the usual stuff, such as drinking lots of water and daredn’t touch caffiene, or alchohol, really boring I know.
Any advice gratefully recieved.
Love Deborahxx
Hi Deborah
I had many urinary problems and endless amounts of treatments in my twenties and found that cranberry juice was very useful in easing any discomfort.
Hope you feel better soon!

Hi Deborah, I am in the same boat as you. Finished ECMF in march and have had at least six infections over treatment time. I was also fine before chemo, Im sure my bladder has been damaged. In fact I have another one now and am on antibiotics. Further to the suggestion of cranberry juice, I have just bought cranberry tablets from barrett and holland, they are more concentrated and supposed to stop the bacteria sticking to the bladder wall. So im going to start taking them, cant do any harm anyway. Bset of luck lizzy
Hi Deborah
My chemo finished in Mar 04 and for first year had loads of water infections - especially after the combination of wine and sex!!! Also found drinking gallons of cranberry juice was nearly as good as the antibiotics. The good news is touch wood haven’t had one for nearly 2 years so I think the bladder does recover over time - I am sure it was the chemo (I had 6 x FEC) - every time I went for a wee afterwards it really burned especially went the pink stuff was going through - sorry to be so graphic.
Perhaps you could try cranberry and vodka as a tipple!!!
Take care

I am not going through chemical treatment so can not give you advice from that point of view however was on the depro 3 monthly hormone jab so I didn’t concieve and last year I got an infection every few weeks and eneded up having scans and tests done then too… I drank cranberry a whole box every day and it did stop it happening so often but as soon as I stopped the jabs because of breast problems and my fear it could make it worse I havnt had one …last year I had over 20 all needing antibotics! hope this helps xxxx
