Returning to a physical job after lumpectomy

I had a lumpectomy 2 weeks ago and get my results this Friday, I am suffering from numbness in my armpit and a burning sensation with the odd shooting pains, I do cleaning for a living and just wondered if anybody on here could give me estimate of when they returned to work, most forums I have read are office workers, my job is pretty physical moving furniture etc and the worst part is that it is my right side and I am right handed, if anyone can advise I would be most greatful ?

Hi I would say give yourself a few weeks, I finished chemo October 2015’ had double masctomy Nov 2015 and finished rads this Jan I have only just started a full time job valeting caravans and feel that now six months after surgery I have enough movement in my arms to do this type of work.i still ach in my arms, hands ect so don’t rush back to work too soon take care

Hi Flowerbell- I know this isn’t quite the same thing but I saw my surgeon four & a half weeks after lumpectomy & he said I could return to doing whatever I did before op - as I’m a carer for my husband & so do a certain amount of lifting I clarified with him & he said yes it was fine. But I have to say that even a few weeks after that I still had a bit of discomfort when doing any lifting so I’d still be careful & take it easy & see what your body tells you. All the best with your results xx

Hi Flowerbell,
Listen to the experts, but also listen to your body.
i had a seroma (exquistly paunful, thankfully immediate relief ince drained), but also developed cording, again improved after several specific sessions with the physio.
Also speak with your GP and the work place advisors here ir on macmillan.
