i posted on here a few months ago about pain in chest area etc. Bone scan showed area of concern, MRI showed all OK so have been given follow up appt in Sept. Saga has been going on since March.
This is the only place I can be really honest as am pretending to my kids and friends that everything is definately OK. Have talked alittle to my lovely husband but he gets anxious so havn’t mentioned worries further. Problem is that the pain has increased a little and today is a sharp pain in rib area. Most of the time I can put it out of my mind as i can’t do anything until I’ve been back to BC clinic and I wanted to try and have a worry free summer.
I guess I want reassurance that if I have 2ndry bone cancer and it hasn’t been treated for 6 months that it won’t make much difference to my long term prognosis. Am I right in thinking that 2ndry bone cancer isn’t “cured” but sort of held in remission so it can’t spread?
I have some rib pain it’s not in my bones it’s in the chest wall which has affected the top rib I was told the cancer was back on June 16th just before going on holiday & first chemo was yesterday after a few mix ups. I noticed the change back in Feb but put things off as had been cleared last July & had to go back through doctors befoe appt at hospital. I too get the impression once you have secondary it’s not curable just controlled
It was the ct scan that revealed mine though MRI is suppose to be more thorough.
Hope this is some help message me if you need to know anything else & if I know will say
As I understand t there is no advantage in finding out earlier. Although it might seem as if early detection results in a longer life span afterwards, the total is the same as if you found out later (eg say 10 years after early detection, 5 years if discovered 5 years later). Of course finding out earlier might mean that its confined for longer to a smaller area, but in the end there are only a certain number of treatments, so they can spread them out, or throw them all at you at a later stage.
I asked my onc about this when we discussed having scans, She said no point really unless you have obvious symptoms, the early detection is no advantage in the long run. I prefer to live in ignorance for as long as possible so have opted for no scans.
Incidentally, I have had odd rib pains from time to time, but they have always vanished after a while. I think ts a side effect of the treatment.
best wishes
What treatment are you on? I am on aromasin and zometa, its early days with the aromasin for me and I get odd twinges and then some bone pain that flare up and then die down after a few days. Still trying to find out what is normal!!
Hi There,
I have had rib pain in the past and a few bone scans to confirm whats going on.
After scans etc the sharp pain i was getting in my rib was put down to radiotherapy damage.
Are you sure its not that rather than assuming the worst~?
I know what you mean about not talking to OH as i know his worries are greater than myn and if i worry he also gets anxious, and frightened to ask me about my feelings.
take care

I’m hoping I am being pessimistic- not my usual frame of mind!- I’m about 3 years post treatment so pain only started a long time after rads finished. But as consultant said to me “there are many pains we never find the reason for” so maybe it’s one of those mysteries.
Thank you all you lovely ladies for taking the time to reply. Feel reassured that delays in possible diagnosis would make little difference.
Am off for a short break at the Penny Brohn centre next week. looking forward to it as several women from my BC support group have been and come back saying how relaxed and positive they feel afterwards.
Hi all, this is my first time in the forum. I had my mx (right boob) 6 weeks ago. I was ok initially just the usual tearing kind of pain in breast area and under arm, but it is bearable most of the time now. I’m still quite stiff underarm and shoulder area but this should improve with time. I now seem to be suffering from awful shoulder blade pain especially in the morning or when I have been in one position for a long time. Do you think it could be posture. I started, when I came out of hospital, taking Co-codamol 8 but got bunged up (if you know what I mean) something awful. My GP prescribed Ibuprofen, but because I take Omeprazole for acid reflux I’m a bit wary. I don’t know what to do, other than just try to stick it out and hope for the best. Chem FEC starting next week!

Hello little mrs,
I hope everything is going okay. I’m posting here because I was going to start a new thread tonight because I am a little worried.
Only three weeks post op, but no discomfort in breast. mentioned to ONC yesterday pain in rib just under boob where I had WLE. Said it was giving me trouble and ribs were tender (feeling bruised).
She only felt the boob but said it was just tissue growing in pockets. Can’t help feeling I’d like further investigation.
Pain is where the lower ribs join the cartilage below sternum and also tenderness below so my hypochondria mind is screaming ‘liver’.
How hard is it approp to push for a scan, or will it be done anyway as a precursor to RADS?
Any advice please.
