I wonder if anyone has had a bilateral mastectomy with reconstruction using the LD Flap method. I am a BRCA1 carrier, and my surgery is planned for August this year.
I just wondered if anyone could give me some information on their own experiences of the Royal Free hospital, and any hints or tips.
Hi Crystal- I have recently posted an enquiry about this as my daughter has a LD flap mx with immediate recon. 4 years ago and a 2nd one very recently ( both in Bristol). The first went better than the second as regards post-op recovery.
Unfortunately I had no replies - so hope you do better!
Sorry to hear you didn’t get any replies Topsymo. Could I suggest you give the helpline here a ring, they’ll be only too happy to talk to you about this. Calls are free, 0808 800 6000 open M-F 9-5 and Sat 9-2.
Not sure if it helps but there is a surgen at The Haven in London on Thursday, The talk is about different types of reconstruction. I was going to go but have chemo tomorrow so can’t but he is meant to be very good.
I must have missed this one. I’ve just had a mastectomy and reconstruction at the Royal Free Hospital and I cannot say a bad thing about the hospital - they were wonderful. I’m also due to have the other side reconstructed around the same time as you.
If you’d like to talk more about it then please PM me.
There are quite a few posts about the ld flap surgery further back, not specifically at the royal free though. Had the immediate ld flap recon mid feb, it’s a large surgery and three months later I am healing well, even though I still have a seroma on the back but full recovery will take a while yet! Good luck! Tina.
hi there, I didn’t have my main surgery at the Royal Free (mastecomies and reconstructions)but have had my nipple reconstructions done there and am now having my tattooing done there. It is a lovely hospital and on my 3 visits/stays so far, have found the staff really helpful. Bit of a nightmare to park though, so if you do drive there is a car park on Hampstead Heath, which is only 5 minute walk to the hospital. Hope this helps. good luck. Theresa
