Yes Aloe would be good, but you could also try Weleda Calendula Baby Cream or any other make of Calendula cream, it’s extremely healing. I had 15 sessions of RT, put Calendula cream on immediately afterwards, as I was dressing, and had only very minor discolouration on my skin.
Hi i used Aveeno it was recommended to me by my cancer team. When I had my radiotherapy I used lots of this cream. Keep moisturising as many times as you like. I was very lucky not to have any skin problems.
I finished 15 doses 4 days ago. I used aloe Vera gel, a nivea moisturiser I was using post surgery and I was given flamigel (i was told i can apply this up to 6 times a day) by the radiotherapy department. I also would have regular topless time to let my skin breath as much as possible.
The radiotherapy team advised i stop with aloe Vera gel (the oncologist also insisted i could not use aloe Vera oil but could use gel!)
My skin was doing well until the morning of my last dose when the skin under my breast split, I now have flaminal hydro and wound dressings for this bit.
I was warned the side effects of radiotherapy tend to peak 2 weeks after the last dose and my skin is getting worse. I had a boost with my radiotherapy which focused quite close to my armpit, this skin is very red and sore
I’ve been washing the skin with an emollient and applying this over night or if I need to put a top on to reduce friction, I’ve done this since my skin split
Hi so I finished 5 doses on Friday and so far my skin’s been ok if a little pink.
Here’s what I did:
2 weeks before normal body lotion twice a day
1 week before MooGoo Udder Cream 3 times a day as it came free in my Little Lifts box
Flamigel RT bought from Amazon from just before my treatment. In the morning, quick application after treatment (mid afternoon) before dressing. Top up application when I got home in case I’d missed a bit then at bedtime. The Flamigel RT is different from moisturiser forming a barrier on your skin.
Apply creams as high as your top tattoo, to the mid point of you chest, all of your breast area under your arm and about 2cm below your bra strap..
I drank loads including a whole water bottle in the car after treatment.
I’ve had cotton crop tops on instead of bras until today as I’m a not so pert 38DD so needed some lift to keep air flow going. Now in a thin cotton bra. Baggy tops not tucked in to allow air circulation. I read silk, cotton and bamboo were good. Earth Wardrobe is very affordable.
Washing with an old baby muslin I still had. Patting not scrubbing with natural soap (from Little Lifts box) or emollient I have for something else. Pat dry with a soft towel.
My breast felt a bit hot of an evening so I put our old Mr Bump fridge cool pack on top a couple of times an evening. I also propped that elbow on a cushion to create air space between my breast and arm and prevent friction.
I then took ibuprofen at bedtime alongside an antihistamine to help me not scratch any itching.
I hope that’s useful x
I was given flamogel by clatterbridge but also used moogoo which is lovely . Good luck
Just going to add I bought the huge 250ml Flamigel. I have applied it generously 3/4 times a day to my DD cup bust for nearly 10 days now and there’s still loads left so I could have got the 100ml easily.
