Ruptured implant - again

I feel a bit of a fraiud posting here as I have been BC-free officially for 5 years now, but still living with the implications I suppose!

Just found out that my reconstructed breast implant has now ruptured badly and I need to have it replaced. I actually had recon originally 10 years ago, so am way past BC, but the after-effects keep following me!

Originally, my left breast was completely reconstructed and my right was augmented to give me a ‘boob job’ effectively! The left went wrong so was re-done but went wrong again and I have just lived with it. Then after 6 years, the right one ruptured and I had that one replaced. No reason found for the rupture.

Now my left one has gone [again no apparent reason] so I now have 3 choices:

  1. replace the left one yet again and see how wonky it goes this time
  2. get rid of the implants altogether which will leave me assymetrical and potentially looking odd on the left and needing prosthesis
  3. opt to take out the augmentation on the right to go back to my previously small breast and have a smaller implant on the left which might go wonky again anyway

Anyone else had any experience of this?

Dear AliBaby,

I’m sorry to read you are having problems with your reconstruction.  I hope someone will soon notice your post and come along with some replies.

It might help to call our Helpline to talk things over.  They are open from 9-5 on weekdays and 10-2 on Saturdays.  The number is 0808 800 6000

Very best wishes
