Scar change

I have a lot of anxiety about recurrence since my initial DCIS diagnosis in Jan 25. I have been to the breast clinic a few times about different concerns. My last visit was May where I got a full breast ultrasound of my breasts and had a clear mammogram in January. I noticed last night that when I raise my arms, where the scar is there is a very definite pulling in in one spot. I don’t think it was there before. Above the scar there has always been a dipped area that literally looks like where tissue was removed. But this is on the scar line just below that area. I feel like I would have noticed this before. I think I’d like to have it checked out so I’ll call later but in the meantime I’d love some of the nurses thoughts on this. I haven’t slept, I’m so worried.

Hi charlie55

Thanks for posting.

It may help to reassure you that many people feel anxious after a diagnosis of DCIS and worry about recurrence.

Although DCIS has a good prognosis it’s still natural to feel anxious. And it’s understandable you haven’t slept and feel worried as you’ve noticed this pulling in one spot when you raise your arms.

It’s important to be aware of any changes to the breast, chest or surrounding area. It can be difficult to know how your breast scar area should feel and this may change over time. It does sound like you know how it looks and feels and what’s normal for you. This has made you more confident in noticing any changes and reporting early to your breast team as you have done previously and plan to do this time. The team will be able to check your scar area and discuss your concerns.
