scare and miss shapen??

Im booked in to have two lumps removed from my right breast, one of them is over 2cms and the other smaller. Will I be left with a miss shapend boob? and how long is the recovery? Im a single mum with 6 year old twins, so I need to plan ahead

Hi Tracey,

I had a 1.8cm lump removed on the 10th Jan my breast is still breast shaped. There is a flat area where the lump was removed from and I lost about 1cm from my aureola but I feel like they have done a really good job. Make sure you speak to the surgeon before you have surgery and ask them. Mine drew all over me with marker pen!!..
I has the sential nodes removed too at the same time. I had the surgery at 9.00am and was checked out the same day as I didnt have any drains. I slept the whole first night and was uncomfortable for about a week but mainly from the node removal not the breast. Amazingly that was fine just parecetomol for pain relieve. Try and get help though for at least acouple of days ss being able to take it easy makes all the difference to recovery and it can be a bit emotional having any surgery.

Good luck. Shonagh xx

I had a 2.4cm lump removed from just below my nipple. The surgeon done a brilliant job and managed to keep my nipple. There’s quite a bit of my underbreast missing but I wear preformed or push up bras and it’s not noticable.I was offered a reconstruction but felt I really didnt need it.It’s my battle scar and I’m quite proud of it in a way! Mind you if I were younger(I was 45) I’d probably have gone for the reconstruction. After 4 years I’ve just got a faint scar under my arm were my nodes were removed. As far as recovering from the op -I signed myself out of hospital after 3 days and had to go back each day to have the fluid that collects around the wound drained(I did have more than the norm) but apart from that I didnt feel as though I’d had an op! I certainly didn’t have to take it easy and hope your experience is similar!

Hi Tracey, I had a lumpectomy to the cleavage side of my left breast, from what the plastic surgeon told me it really depends upon where on the breast the tissue is removed, as to the final outcome i.e how it will look. I’m told by my surgeon that reconstruction would have been possible at the time of the removal, but the tissue weakening affects of Radiotherapy make ‘patching up’ after treatment very tricky, with healing issues etc; so maybe see if it’s possible to have an appt with a plastic surgeon before the surgery?

As far as recovery goes, I found my breast to be tender but not painful, the fatigue was the hardest thing to cope with. Rest as much as you can, if you’re tired, and don’t feel guilty about sleeping instead of doing laundry or anything else that can wait, you have to be the priority as much as possible!

Best of luck with the op and your recovery,

Warm Wishes,

Sara.
