have recently been recalled after my very 1st mammogram, another one then an ultra sound and core biopsy, results 3 days later DCIS non invasive, was booked in the next day for another larger biopsy and got results 6 days later, again non invasive. Was sent to see the surgeon who said although my biopsy’s were coming back non invasive I will have to have a lumpectomy and not to be surprised if the results of that were invasive. He seemed pretty sure that going by the scan etc that it was invasive. Have to wait at least 4 weeks for this procedure in which I have a wire inserted under x-ray first then lumpectomy then another 5 day wait. Is this the normal procedure. Help.
We have also just been accepted by immagration to join our children/grandchildren in Australia and the Australian government now say I can’t go if it is invasive.
Hi heather
I was diagnosed with non invasive DCIS (due to microcalcifications) after my first mammogram in Sept 09. I had biopsies taken from both breasts (luckily it was only in one of them) and then saw the surgeon who recommended a lumpectomy. I had the wire inserted the morning of the op - its uncomfortable but nothing too bad although I bruised quite a bit from it. Then had my lumpectomy which was fine but I developed a large haematoma so had to go back in and have that cleared by another op. I then went back two weeks later and was told by surgeon that I didn’t have clear margins (big shock) I had the third op - another lumpectomy but much bigger - just before Xmas and I am lucky that after this one I had clear margins. I am now over half way through a course of 15 rad treatments to clear up any loose cells lurking outside but no chemo needed!! The other ladies on here could corrct me if I’m wrong but if yours is invasive wouldn’t the surgeon be taking lymph nodes as well? Do you have a breast care nurse you can talk to?
All in all the whole process from the first mammogram to now has taken 5 months. Everyone on this site is so supportive so pelase ask as many questions as you want I’m sure that one of us will know about it.
Take care

Hi Heather
Also had DCIS, couple of biopsies then a WLE (lumpectomy). I also had the wire put in on the morning of the op. Got the results 9 days later, told they didn’t have clear margins and needed to repeat the WLE. Had to wait another 8 days for the second op and they decided to to a SNB (remove and test some lymph nodes to see if it was invasive)… Another week for results, which were clear margins and clear lymph nodes - unbelievable relief!
Last op was beginning of Dec and I have just had 6th of 15 rads. So it sounds pretty normal!
Any questions just ask cos someone will have experienced your question - the forums are a massive source of info and support.
