Hi Hemmalee,

Welcome to the Breast Cancer Care discussion forums, you’ve come to the right place for some good support as the many informed users of this site have a wealth of information between them.

While you are waiting for replies I have put for you below the link to BCC’s publication ‘Referral to a breast clinic’ which you might like to read before your hosptial appointment. Could I also suggest that you give the helpline here a ring and have a chat to one of the breast care nurses who will be able to explain what to expect at your hospital visit and give you some support. Calls to the helpline are free, 0808 800 6000, lines open today at 9.00 am - 5.00 pm.

Hope this helps, kind regards,

Hi Hemmalee. Really feel for you. It’s a horrible time waiting, but you’ve acted immediately which is the best thing to do. I think I’m right in saying that you should be seen within two weeks of a referral so really you need to keep busy in the meantime and try not to worry.

Love and hugs
Al

hi all, well im still waiting for an appointment, going crazy mind just wont switch off, i found a lump on xmas eve went straight docs who clearly felt it n referred me but i came on today n no longing can feel the lump, which i should be pleased about but my mum says i should still go for my appointment (as we have family history) but after reading some post am scared of being a time waster should i tell gp lump has gone n see what he says or just go with it!!! so confussed just dont no whats going on! any help would be greatfull xxx

Hi Hemmalee

Im right with your mum on this one!

Do keep that appt, especially with a family history of (breast?) cancer.

No-one with worries about their breasts is a time waster. You pay for the NHS every day, now is the time to use it!

Chase up the appt if you don’t hear soon, won’t you?

If it’s nothing to worry about, you can stop worrying and if it does need treatment, the sooner it starts, the better.

Take care.

thanks just feeling confussed about it all, my nan and aunt both have had bc. just keep telling myself its nothing to worry about but its hard when you have no 1 to talk about how your feeling really dont want to upset my mum with it as her mum sadly passed with it,it was a long time ago but the pain dose not go away x

Hi Hemmalee
you aren’t alone with this, please talk to people on here, a lot of us have found it a fantastic support.
I agree with Bahons and your mum - keep that appointment and get either peace of mind or get the ball rolling as soon as poss for any treatment.
I hope you get the peace of mind and can walk away and get on with your life, but you do need to know, either way.
good luck, hope all goes well
