Scared lump too big for lumpectomy

Please could I ask how you were in the days immediately after surgery? Just trying to get an expectation of how sore I will be and how much I will be able to do/not do. It is half term next week and kids are around but thankfully have my Mum and husband around to do the bulk of the work! Xx

Oh really not toooo bad!!! Yes it was sore, my armpit especially but make sure you get some strong stuff from the hospital before you leave. I was given dihydrocodeine ( might be wrong spelling) which helped a lot at night. Tiredness was the worst part. I had little naps every afternoon for several days. Make sure you do the arm exercises as they help with arm ache. It will hurt to start with but do persevere. Also I held a flannel over the wounds in the shower so was showering from day 2 and washed my hair one handed on day 3. lol by leaning over forward.

The best thing I got was one of those V pillows which made it so much more comfy to sleep. I didn’t have it initially and had 2 uncomfortable nights. Strongly suggest you get one. Also I got some very soft bras from Sainsbury’s which zipped up the front which were excellent. Best of luck and you will be amazed how quickly you recover even though the first couple of days you probably will be sore and sleepy from the gen anaesthetic. X
