Scared of hormone therapy

@southwest123 Sadly I also don’t drink alcohol, exercise lots and have had horrendous side effects from the very beginning.

Whilst I agree that it is definitely always good to exercise, I think it’s more down to how the hormone therapy reacts with our personal body make-up.

Some of us are very lucky not to have adverse reactions to these meds and others of us just do :woman_shrugging:

I’m 58, very active, drink very little alcohol and menopausal. Side effects crashed into me within 2 weeks. Full depression, so stiff I felt 20 years older, long and very intense hot flushes a couple of times an hour, brain fog so bad I couldn’t do simple calculations or remember my family’s names.

Not just my age as now I’m not taking them I’m nearly back to normal.

Morning all. Im just about to switch to Tamoxifen from Letrozole which has crippled me. Im switching supposedly due to side effects of taking Leterzole for two and half years. Joint pain, stomach issues and extreme fatigue. The Tamoxifen are currently on my bedside having been sat there for two weeks. I stopped all meds without telling anyone just over four months ago ( lots going on within the family- mum had a stroke, daughter struggling with PhD supervisor and feeling crap). Since then Ive actually felt normal apart from sudden bouts of fatigue, I mentioned how I felt at a Surgery followup ( had symmetry last Nov). The consultant was very supportive but concerned I wasnt taking anything as I had a local spread on initial operation. He suggested Tamoxifen because in his words ‘ I shouldn’t get joint pain’. Im scared to start as Ive felt so well and looked well these past few months. We now have another worry husband has just been diagnosed with aggressive Prostate Cancer and I scared taking these tablets that I will be back to square one with not being able to help him. Up to my BC I didnt visit the Dr, well I did as I worked for one!!!. No medications, no illnesses and now a damm tablet for ten years along with Bisophorates and Adcal D3. I know I should take them but I don’t want to feel crap again. Its easier to keep putting off but I know I must start soon.

After radiotherapy. The consultant told me numerous times, with Lterozole, not sure with other medications. X

Hi

Just jumping in on the tamoxifen side effects. Im 34 was diagnosed with grade 2 IDC end of last year , i had successful lumpectomy, 5 radiotherapy sessions and in January started the tamoxifen. It has been the worst part of this whole experience and the least spoken about with the oncology team.

Initally I didn’t have many serious side effects until my periods stopped around month 3 as a result of the drug and then I felt like I had PMT constantly.! Very low mood, depressed, anxious, angry and the brain fog is totally debilitating. I have two boys 3 and 1 year old and it is difficult to say the least to deal with the side effects of this drug.

Recently seen the oncology team who are keen for me to stay on tamoxifen due to my age, despite the cancer having a relatively low reoccurrence risk. They can never say for definite the stats on whether it will return or not. So I have been driving myself crazy questioning whether to just risk not taking it.

Has anyone taken an antidepressant with thier hormone therapy and felt better? They have now thrown this at me to deal with the side effects but I am concerned about taking an antidepressant when I’m not depressed normally only because of the tamoxifen (just had a 6 week break and I feel almost myself again . Dreading starting it again but I feel I should for the sake of my two little boys.
