Secondary and Xeloda Newby

Hi everyone

Today is my first post on the forum and my first day Xeloda. I have just been diagnosed with secondary breast cancer with mets in my lymph node under the breast bone and a couple of small spots on my liver. After the initial shock I’m coping well and have decided to give up work to do the things I really want to do rather than the things I feel I should be doing. I’m just counting down the days until I retire. I do keep well but do suffer from fatique and feel whilst I’m still feeling good theres a whole lot of living still to be enjoyed!!!

I’m planning to apply for DLA but dont think I will qualify for the mobility part unless anyone can tell me different?

So far so good with the Xeloda but I really had underestimated how long it would take me in the morning to get ready for work today. I have pills to take first thing then showered, then anti sickness, then breakfast, then Xeloda and then rubbing moisturizer on hands and feet just in case. Packed all the lothian and potions I might just need today (you know - just in case!!) then an one and a half hour journey to work on the bus. Roll on retirement!!!

I’m hoping to have a break in treatment to go abroad to visit my family for Christmas in the UAE. Any advice on travel insurance welcomed.

I am so pleased to have this forum and the massive support of everyone on it calling each other on.

Hi Marina

Welcome to Club Cape(citabine)!! I’m on cycle 11 and it’s given me a great summer/autumn except for sore feet (ho hum). Liver + bone mets.

There’s a current Xeloda thread you may want to join,
share.breastcancercare.org.uk/forum/xeloda-and-the-‘week-off’-t33431.html
and other earlier ones,
share.breastcancercare.org.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?f=25&t=32608&p=563166#p563166 should get you to those.

Hi Marina
Sorry that you have had to join us, I have bone and liver and mediastinol nodes mets. Hopefully you will find this forum useful. I have had 3 cycles of xeloda and just had my 4th deferred because my bloods aren’t good enough! As Mrs Blue said there are a great many threads relating to xeloda the “Xeloda and the week off” is still active, so come and join us on there.

Hi Marina

Sorry you’ve had to join the Stage IV club but we’re a nice bunch and not at all scary!

Retirement sounds like an excellent option - don’t think I’d relish a 90 minute bus journey either and I think you’re amazing for managing it.

There is a sticky thread for travel insurance in the secondary BC section where you can get info but it’s all a bit individual and involves ringing round. Hope you’re continuing to feel well and can enjoy a well-deserved Xmas with your family.
