Secondary bone in spine X hips

Hi everyone

I was diagnosed with breast cancer in April 2016 I had 6 months of chemotherapy then a mastectomy then rAfiotherapy, in July I was due to have my port taken out but tests showed the cancer had returned in my spine X hip, at the present time I am really struggling all I can think of is I dying I not sleeping , eating lost 2 stone in last 6 weeks, just had the cement in spine to strengthen the spine .

Is anyone going through this or can give me any advice I normally a very strong lady but really struggling at minute

Hi Karen,

You are not alone in how you are feeling at the moment.  I was diagnosed primary and secondaries at the same time in Feb this year at the age of 46.  Completely devastated.  I have a beautiful family and I have had some dark days.  BUT you are not going to die anytime soon, there are treatments and you need to put your trust in your medical team.

Try  to eat healthily and keep your strength up.

i don’t post on here very much but I do log on and read how everyone is occasionally and anytime I have had a question the ladies on here have been so knowlegable and always so kind.  Use this site to ask anything.

Hugs

Maria

Thankyou Maria

Thankyou for your words of support from looking at horror stories on internet I thought I was doomed, been told now to stay off internet looking

Take care

Karen
Good words of wisdom …stay off internet its not too accurate.
Just remember that for every lady that posts here with problems and side effects …there are hundreds just reading maybe but living very normal lives with no problems !!
Hope you stay with us and join in with private forum where there are book clubs gardening and word games all going on.

Thankyou so much

Hi Karen

I have just read your post and I thought I would let you know how similar things are with us both. I too have been toldabout 5 weeks ago that I have secondarys in my bones. It is in my hips ad spine aswell. I had an operation on th the spine to remove a tumour and have the cement and some steel put in there. I then had a new hip,

All this is very encouraging as we can live with this condition we just need stabilising first and this is why you have had your spine strengthened.

It is very daunting at first when you are being told the things that are wrong with you but treatment can control this and so you need to try and train you thoughts to how you are you going to live with this condition.

As for eating try to eat small and often. your mood will be low if you are not eating so try and get some fuel inside you.

I like you have had my life turned upside down. I am only 49 years old but Karen we can get our heads round this and live our lifes to the full.

I am always here if you need a chat

Hello Karen
At last a femur nail buddy. There is only one other lady here ( scoobysue) that I can share with.
I had mine done last November as I had a hole in femur and was in danger of breaking. It was also done to stabilize my hip and pelvis damage too.
How do u find your movements with it ??
Carolyn xx

Hi I had it done 3 weeks ago so at present feels very strange does it get better, I had my femur done 3 weeks ago and the concrete in spine 2 weeks ago so a little delicate at present ha xx

Hiya Karen
I’m disappointed as I honestly thought I would 've able to walk better. Still can’t drive and have to use a stick to walk with .
Some days its ok some its stiff and the bolts seem to pull when I move and have to sort of move them !!!
I have hips spinal and pelvis Mets as well.

Hi Karen, just wanted to say hi.Sorry you have had to join us but we’re all here to help. I have only recently been told I have mets in spine and pelvis and am on denosumab so nowhere near as drastic as you and the others.I started with skin mets and also have them in pleura.it’s a big shock isn’t it? I too had the same feelings as you but the ladies on here told me not to go on the internet and gave me loads of useful advice and information. I do still worry all the time about what is round the next corner but you will get to a place where you can at least function almost normally.we all have dark days but if nothing else, sharing on here helps you through. Lots of love.xx

Hi yes that is how mine feels very heavy but at least not in agony which is good xx

Thankyou can not believe the support I have received on here and people just like me I can talk to and chat xx

Hello bonarinsis ( sorry about the spelling)
No don’t talk about myself much as I don’t suffer some of the chemo like a lot do here and count myself lucky !
Impressed myself with cleaning yesterday …but we have had a nice day out today …shopping and a nice pub lunch but guess what . .a lady reversed out of a car space into our car …caused a nasty mess but it turns out she was on her way for first chemo for bcc and wasent with it …I’ve given her this website for support and now I feel quality for her probably loosing her no claim bonus on insurance for our damage .
Carolyn xxxx

Oh no Carolyn I can remember my first chemo was in a right state so do feel for the poor lady, I got my oncologist appointment tomorrow hoping it good news and no more bad news for now

Talk soon

Karen

Yes Karen
I feel guilty at the burden of claim for my damage too …she has a lot to face starting chemo …so maybe I will leave it a week for her to settle with chemo before I contact her with my car bill !!
I’m seeing my oncologist next week and always go into panic mode as soon as I get I the hospital car park!! hoping for ok to drive again as its nine months now.
Hope yr femur pin is settling in …found the bolts on the hip the worst for pulling …the other two down the leg are easier .
Hugs xxxx

Hi Carolyn
Bless you are kind but someone needs to pay for the damage
I can’t wait to drive again not sure how long it takes this leg feels very strange but I bet I don’t need to tell you that, feels led weight in it
Please keep in touch

Big hugs

Karen …you know I had no after care or help at all. The physios just showed me how to walk on crutches an hour before I was discharged!! I was told I wouldn’t b able to drive. It’s a funny feeling having these alien things in our bodies though !!
I had to use a higher toilet seat for a few months and literally lift my leg into bed at night. It does get better as time goes on and it was the only option for me. I think if you have the total hip replaced …it’s easier but I had too much cancer in the hip for one.
Of course …no high heel shoes for you …I wear ballet pumps and ugg boots most of time. I have just bought memory foam insoles for my trainers to give a bit of bounce !!

Hi Carolyn

That is me high raised seats and a bloody nightmare trying to lift my leg yes I too could not have hip as tumour lying on it, physio gave me stick and exercises to do that it , McMillan nurse has just been and referring me for ot yipeee finally, I have a nightmare getting in and out of shower that is over bath can’t do it by myself need someone with me to help, oh the joys

Karen.
We paid for an extra stair banister and rails in bathroom.lucky enough we have a walk in shower but no downstairs toilet so …I will b honest for a week …I did a wee in a bucket downstairs during day to save climbing stairs !! As mine was an emergency op …we were not prepared !! I also got a little gadget for putting my socks on as it was winter!!
Best way to lift leg into bed is use the cord of your dressing gown and hoist !! Found it better. also made a wall of pillows at night so didn’t roll on it as ouch it hurts if u do. Mines all ok now .
Hope this helps
