Secondary breast cancer in stomach lining

My aunt has had bone secondaries for about 3years and they have now found breast cancer cells in her stomach lining…her oncologist says although this is not unheard of it is quite a rare place for breast cancer to spread to.
She is going to start a course of oral chemotherpay… she couldn’t remember the name of the chemotherapy only that it began with ’ C '…aptly this chemotherapy will not cause hair loss, but may cause diarrehoa [spelling]…which she is now concerned about as her weight is dropping dramaticly without that too…she is going to mention her worries when she ges to pre-chemo clinic.
Has anyone had any experience of breast cancer secondaries in the stomach lining or have any information please?

Hi Karen, I wondered if your Aunt’s chemo is Capecitabine? That’s what I’m on at the mo…tablets for 2 weeks then a week off…the other name for it is Xeloda. I haven’t had any problems at all, still have all my hair and the dose can be altered if it’s causing problems. Your Aunt will probably be given some anti nausea tablets and Imodium along with her first tablets, just in case she needs them, I haven’t had to use them so far. If it is Capecitabine I would advise your Aunt to start moisturising her hands and feet as soon as she starts the tablets. It’s a chemo that can cause very dry and sometimes cracked and painful hands and feet. I use Udderly smooth cream (you can find more info if you type Udderly Smooth into google) forum posters Marilf and Jennywren recommended it to me and although my hands and feet are much drier they are ok. It’s my first chemo and I think many find it a ‘kinder’ chemo.
I haven’t got mets to the stomach lining but I know it’s a place where you can develop mets.
Hope your Aunt is ok with her chemo, if it’s Xeloda some have been on this chemo for years…it’s been working for me since Spring…it’s also a chemo you can have a break from then resume, I will now stay on Xeloda for as long as it’s working…Belinda…x.

Hi Karen - one of the members on bcpals has spread to the stomach lining - actually I think the area is the omentum. It may be worth posting there.
