My mother, who is 57 has just been diagnosed with secondary BC in her breast, lung and bone. Her original diagnosis was in 2007. We’re waiting for an appointment to discuss treatment with the oncologist.
We’ve also decided we don’t want to discuss possible time frames with the doctor and to deal with everything as it comes. In light of that, I guess I need a little bit of hope. My mother is still eating well, not losing weight, or altering her activities because of her diagnosis. She’s in no more pain than usual either – she has arthritis and sciatica. So we hope that should stand her in good stead. In fact, the only reason she even had a chest scan was because she hurt herself doing some heavy lifting.
Is there anything else we can do to give her the best chance possible? Is there anything I should be doing? Other than trying to keep her mind off of it of course.
Oh, and I wanted to ask, even though I will be speaking with the oncologist about it, how you all felt about possibly being tested/actually being tested for the gene/having that conversation with your daughters? My mum’s cancer was hormonal and she was the right age for it at 49. She has agreed to be tested anyway as I have the same high level of hormones and feel that I have enough mental illness to apply the right stressors and trigger the cancer in the future. Am I being too premature in considering this? Personally I’d rather they be gone than risk it at all.
Thanking you all in advance and I hope you are well! <3 xx
