Mary - do you see your surgeon again soon ? before onc ?
Good question, Chipper! I think it should be end of this month/beginning of next month. Might ring the breast care nurse to find out what the deal is. When I got results (end June) they said they’d see me in about 8 weeks time.
Hello
just to confirm what Lizzie said, all medicines are covered on the exemption certificate. I have asthma and my chemist said my inhalers are now free - one plus about this “situation”, now can I think of any more?? (sorry bad day so being a bit flip…)
Take care

Scotland and as far as I am aware Ireland are not included in the exemption for prescription charges for cancer patients. What I find absolutely disgusting is the fact that because of the horrible side effects of Femara I was changed to Arimidex. I still had two unopened packs of Femara which I took back to the chemist and was informed that they would be destroyed! These are expensive drugs, pack intact so why do they have to be destroyed! Sorry, moving off the topic of the thread.

the unused med are destroyed because they cannot guarantee they have been tampered with… even in hosp if they put your name on the drug and then dont give them they have to be destroyed… im sure it must cos the nhs an awful lot of money but maybe not as much as people getting prescription for meds they dont take.
im also in scotland and have the year long exemption which is about £35 for the year… iv definitely had my moneys worth since april already!

i thought the english exemption cert was only for certain diseases and for side effects of those diseases and not just cancer but i dont see asthma on the list unless it has been worsened by your cancer treatments…
not sure how to quote but its from the NHS BSA medex page

also i had rads 3 years ago i saw my onc before rads then radiographer for simulator session which was absolutely dire and prob one of my worse cancer experiences.
saw the onc about half way through rads and a few weeks after they ended… i started tamoxifen beginning of june and started rads mid july.
this time im due to see rad-onc 4 weeks before my last chemo but been told they wont start till chemo is over and will then restart tamox sometime after that.

Hi
I saw a doctor the first day of radiotherapy, halfway through I saw a nurse who said if I was having problems I could see the doctor, and I then saw the doctor the day before my last session.
I also then have been given a follow up appointment in about 2 weeks time.
The hospital I have been attending have been fantastic - good luck with your radiotherapy, I was a bit frightened at first but once I got going it was fine
