Sooo good to hear from you rhonaboat. You seem to be managing really well. I have developed a liking for toast and dairylea cheese spread, much to my husbands disgust! and cheese and onion pies ffs! I’ll be looking like a pie by Christmas. I had appointment with one of the surgeons who’ll be doing the DIEP reconstructions when my chemo is over, and she encouraged pie eating and all things stodgy, so she’d have more sculpture materials to play with! her words!
ck…I didn’t realise herceptin is given beforehand. I’m sure I’m having docotaxol, pertuzumab and herceptin all at the same time in a couple of weeks. I’m absolutely dreading it so I hope they stagger mine too. I’m just hoping they carry on giving me the Emend with the new cocktail
hope you ladies who’ve had a cycle this week are managing ok.and not dobbing too many chemo bingo symptoms!
love to you all , Jacqui x
Hi Jencat
Managing fine at the moment! Good appetite and resting. How about you?x
Chas n Dave and Ali
Ive been told dont need Emend for Doxataxol as nausea not as bad but more aches and pains and fatigue! Fanbloodytastictastic!!??!
The first Herceptin I need to have separately to chemo to see if any side effects the day before. Not sure why different to you guys but they follow Christie rules so maybe enquire about it!
Anyway, had my soak, going to mouthwash now and then shut eye.
Glad everybody doing reasonably well - usual day 2 here with the red pee and feeling strange. I had the fabby Akynzeo tablet again which lasts till Saturday when I will go back to ondansetron - anyone else had Akynzeo - has side effects of hiccups which is a bit weird. I need omeprazole for heartburn with it too and still need the oral dexamethosone so still rattling from loads of tablets. I too will have docetaxel on 8 Nov but trying not to think about how that will be differently awful till it happens
Am loving all the food chat as I’m still eating a lot - of all the bad things so some of you are making me more comforted in my comfort food choices - chips and curries this round - and craving dried mango ?? Piling on the pounds I thought I would be rocking a skinny bald patient look but have a lovely big curly Wig and look the picture of blooming health with rosy steroid cheeks and full tummy! Have to watch not to remind people I actually feel like crap as that’s not really the done thing!
Ali I watched Liar too it got a bit bonkers - currently on House of Cards on Netflix which is ace and hubby even agreed to watch the Crown with me - not often we agree what to watch.
CK lovely mental image of you taking your cat for a walk - pets are such comfort even when they are misbehaving - my adult children all seem to be having complicated issues so the cat is a silent calm joy…
Cathysid how did your scans go? Are you still coming up to the Borders- wave if you do!
Michelle627 good luck for tomorrow
Wishing you all good sleep fairies for tonight xx
im awake again. Forgot to take my steroids til 6pm. Have resorted to a sleeping tablet so if I stop mid flow, you’ll know why …
welxome back Rhonaboat, glad you are ok
cathy- I’m a stage 3, grade 3 er too, but that wasn’t confirmed until after the mastectomy. I had multiple tumours and the biopsies missed the grade 3 bits- otherwise I think I would have had chemo first. I hope the MRI results are ok- waiting for test results is not easy.
im still feeling a bit sick but managed to eat a but yesterday, I’ve had a lot of mince from kind friends so I’m a bit overdosed on shepherds pie. Managed a glass of wine before round 3 with a M& S Japanese readymeal which I enjoyed for the first time.
CK, my dog thinks she is a cat tonight and has sneaked up to my chemo den-there were fireworks last night and she hates them, ironically her birthday is Nov 5th poor pooch. Never a happy day or week really for her.
IM also getting my docetaxol on Nov 8th but after 4 HER tests (they kept on coming back borderline), they’ve decided I’m negative (based on my largest 7cm grade 3 tumour). I have no wish for an extra drug but also don’t want to miss out on herceptin if I need it. I’ve also been told I won’t routinely get emend with the docetaxol as nausea is not so bad.
i really enjoyed Liar- husband and I finished on Tues, but agree ending wasn’t great (Dr Foster too wasn’t great at the end either I thought). We’ve done the Crown and husband did house of Cards so I’m keen to find something new that suits us both (not alsways easy I agree). For me distraction during these worst days is the best approach.
Morning Jow
Steroids woke me up agsin from 3.30am so munching on chocolate and drinking milk because I can!? pets are such good company at rhis difficult time. Merlot is spending so much more time with me now and seems to loim at my bare head a lot! Wouldnt it be good to know what they are thinking!
Im sure your team will give you whats best but still ask if in doubt.
Mince and tatties is good this time round and drinking soya milk or organic milk which help more on rhe toilet side!
Had a little ache going up my arm on tbe cannula side so have a rubber hand squeezer to play with which kind of helps ease it a little.just swueeze it whilst whatching TV. I assume it will be helpful for Lymph node exercise too as when Im squeezing it it seems to work right up the arm too.
Hopefully will drift off again soon but wanting toast now!!! These bloody taste buds???
Morning steroid night owls - I managed till 5 today but woke up like a raisin thirsty with dry skin and a rash right up chest and neck a - had this last time so know it disappears and my temp is normal so I just slather moisturiser on. Pint of Ribena and an hour of twitter and I will be good to go till weetabix at 9.
I too was restaged after surgery - weird to think I was supposed to be returning to work all finished after radiotherapy about now in the original plan …
Jo have you tried the killing on Netflix - my sister in Australia is recovering from a hysterectomy and has enjoyed that
Hope you are all cosy take care - merlot too!
Mrs meow
I managed 5 good hours sleep so thats great. Just eaiting for the ondansetron to kick in!! Nothing bad though just a gurgly tummy.
I never thought i would like slerping with a hat on but my little blue cotyon sleep cap feels lovely snd comforting on my head. I look like a bloody smurf but what the hell!!
Morning all I hope you don’t mind I still keep reading your ups and downs even though I am officially October starter
You are inspirational and a font of knowledge so thank you xx
Round 2 for me next Wednesday so keeping up with the tips. Anyone heard from ? recently. Hope she’s doing ok after round 2.
I will be asking for a tweak in anti sickness meds too
Hi Chaffinch
Been in touch with Cherry and shes doing fine. Just busy with work and enjoying her weekends.
Good luck for Weds! Are you on Emend? That seemed to work for me!
Im cycle 3 day 4 amd have been bit tired hut maybe because of steroids I wike up both nights between 3-5am then went back to sleep. Haf a soak tonigjt so see what happens!
Just noticed some of my nail beds have turned dark, hence wearing dark nail varnish from day one, it can be covered but just hope they dont fall off!
Mouth dry today so non stop chomping! Hope I can sleep through tonight!
Mrs Meow
Merlot came for a walk again! Now making noises in his sleep under my bed! Hope tou get a good night!x
Ali
Not bad 5 hours, lets hope you can beat it tonight!
I tried sleeping with satin cap but found it uncomfortable so have satin pillow cases which should look after my scalp.xx
Sue W
You are more than welcome on here, hopefully lots of handy hints.xxx
I am a bit like you today CK. Day 3 have felt tired snd a bit sick. I think my mouth is starting to get sore but heading it off with mouthwas and gell - hopefully!.
Mouth is turning here too which is earlier than last time- no ulcers yet. And have mouthwash this time so tooled up and ready. Have been in a red flush all over especially face for hours today - is this the steroids? No temp so putting up with it - been pretty bushed so watching bake off catch ups - hoping for a good night for us all - and to finishing steroids after tomorrow!
xx
I have the Rosy cheeks each time for first 3/4 days Mrs Meow but temp ok so not to worry. My first cycle I did get a rash on my legs, buttocks, tummy and arms but the Diprobase ointment I smothered all over myself every day and night seems to have helped. GP also gave me a steroid ointment if rash came back. Woke up again eating sardines on toast and watching Corry!!!:0
Thanks CK - I couldn’t get any redder this time if I tried!
I was your food buddy with the mince and tatties etc but you have left me at sardines - I just couldn’t !!
Night to you and Merlot xx
Thanks CK glad that ?is doing ok.
Must admit, not sure about sardines as overnight snack either!
I’m awake knowing that I have busy day tomorrow therefore can’t get back off to sleep ?
Seem to feel panicky during the night if I’m awake.
Ali and Chaffinch - I definitely had some quite low feelings last time at this stage - not with round 1 but after round 2 and they spooked me a bit in the night as am generally quite positive so is interesting this is happening to you guys too a bit. I certainly turned a corner with it by day 7 or 8 but am wary now of lying awake without reading or on fb etc to stave off any sad thoughts as is a lonely time when everyone else sleeps. Meant to look at the meteor shower at dawn today but that turned out to be a step too far!
Am low as well as seem to have had another small bleed and bruise on surgery sites under the skin this is almost constant and so sore - awaiting scanning this week sometime but is a complication that is a pain and stopping me from doing almost anything but bed rest or a bit of walking - can’t even carry a tray of food which will be interesting when everyone goes out today to work soon…pity no food delivery service delivers right up to the bedroom! Xx
Sorry you are having such a rough time with your wounds Mrs M. Must be hard to deal with that on top of the chemo. You definitely deserve room service!
Facial flushing I think can also be caused by odensatron. I used my Boots No. 7 cream from Look Good Feel Better yesterday to make me look a little less rosy.
I’m round 3 day 4 today. Nausea seemed to improve suddenly at 3pm yesterday so started eating toast. Colleague brought me round some home made Kambucha- a fermented tea, and sauerkraut. I’ve never had kambucha before but I really enjoyed it. Not tried the sauerkraut yet but managed a salmon pasta dish that another friend delivered. I will certainly miss all these tasty food and gift deliveries once I’m better. I am continually surprised at people’s generosity and kindness and hope I will be able to repay it, or at least pass it onto others after me who undoubtedly will get diagnosed with BC.
My older sister is coming this morning to take my boys out for the day (in the rain) . I’m not sure whether I should mention to her that she needs to be aware that she is more at risk of BC. I’m guessing she may have worked that out. My 19 year old daughter’s student friends have apparently all been a bit spooked by my diagnosis and one is now being tested for BRCA and another has been to GP with a lump.
I had another disturbed night, feeling very hot so had to remove my pink smurf hat. I was keen to avoid resorting to the sleeping tabs but have had too. Maybe I’ll try CK’s Corrie and sardines on toast combo instead tonight!
Good morning ladies, I’m from the class of September 2013
I read that some of you have difficulty in sleeping - what time are you taking your steroids? I took mine at 8am & 12 noon as instructed by the hospital, they warned me not to take them later else I’d be up all night.
If it’s not that, & you haven’t got any sleeping tabs, have a dose of night nurse -knocks me out all night ? (Remember it has paracetamol so check your temperature prior to taking it)
Feeling low is a side effect/withdrawal if you like, after you stop the steroids. I bet if you check your diaries your low moods will match up with when you stopped taking them.
Around the half mark for a lot of you now, I remember being elated at this point & I guess a bit apprehensive about the se’s of a different drug regime but for me the T was much kinder than the fec
