September 2017 Chemo Starters

Baileys for me too, but not having anymore now. Shame you can’t stimachvthat life Mel honey I am sure that’s helping me I’ve been on it since ali suggested it and that and a steak a day is so far keeping them up after casa nhs on round one. Sorry don’t know what else to suggest darling ???:sparkles::sparkles:shi xx

Is there anything that you could mix the honey into to make it more palatable? You’re not supposed to heat it though. Worth keeping up with as good a diet as you can manage and avoid too much contact with crowds etc.

You have to take the honey on it’s own 1stcthing in morning on empty stomach and last thing at night, so don’t know if it will work if you mix it. I am sure it’s That and the steak, I know I had a reduction in dose to 80% but I am sure the Life Mel honey and steak are helping, I was 3.15 on wed and the one before that 4.29 so even though it’s down a bit it better than the 0.01 I dropped to on round one. Love shi xx

I asked about what I could do re: boosting neutrophils when I went for chemo on Tuesday as my bloods were 1.55 this time and our cut off is 1.5. They have decreased each time so was worried about next time. Anyway, the nurse said that there’s nothing you can do. Neither diet or rest will effect the count, she also said it could bounce back up the very next day. I was told if mine were low next time they’d give me injections, but Fairydust if you’ve already had them I don’t know what to suggest. It’s so annoying though.

Hey Ladies… I’m from the Dec thread but was wondering if there was anyone in here on the PTDC (forgive me if that’s not the abbreviation, I’m just going by medical names of them drugs I’m being given!!)
I had first lot today so any insight into what I’m likely to be in for over the next few days would be great!! Xx

Well i am a guest of the Nhs again tonight? Have not really felt great since my first T last week but got over the pains and then got a cold!! I really needed to get past my boys birthday yesterday! Today i had a temp and a fast heartbeat so had to come in.

Can you believe my WBC’s are high. A sign of fighting infection the doc said. Nothing obvious but probably chest as i have a right cough which has only developed since yesterday!

So here i am in my own room, with a tv having Tazacin by iv. Hoping i can go home tomorrow but not counting my chickens.

Hope everyone who had chemo today is ok

Fairydust i could have given you some neuts xx

Ali really hope you get well soon and can go home xx hugs

Hi fairydust, my temp was 37.8, my heartbeat was 117, my WBC was 40 and my neuts were 83!!! Enough for all of us hey xxc

Hi FairyDust…I did wonder if I that was right as I have never seen the abbreviation on my my December thread?! I’m ER - and HER2+ so have been started on chemo first. I’m on Perjeta, Herceptin and then Docetaxel & Carboplatin. They have told be they are going tough because of my age more than anything. If anyone has this combo then please let me know  xx p.s sorry is ridiculous o’clock— the steroids are keeping me awake! ?

Hi sam i am grade2, ER+ and her 2+. I have had 3 FEC and started PTH last week. I have 3 more to go.

There is also a thread specifically about PTH in going through treatment - top tips if you want to have axread of that it might be helpful x

Sam what i have found after PTH ( no carboplaton though) is that on day 3 i got leg pain and it was troublesome. If you get it you will need cocodamol or something similar. They told me it was nerve pain so you need to take painkillers regularly. You also need to keep an eye on temp though as it does seem to stay up. Ring the helpline if you are concerned about anything. I have also had a very yucky mouth and cant taste anything. I have used difflam mouthwash regularly and sucked sweets or ice lollies. Day 10 today and my tongue and mouth feel better. I have had a few bouts of diaorreah but nothing constant. I got tablets from my chemo unit incase the diaorreah became a problem. Make sure you drink plenty. Water tastes horrible so i have been having blackcurrant juice.

Hope this helps Sam. I hope you have few side effects xx

Thank you so much ladies! I’ll pop over to the other forum in that case!!
I’m glad I have found others on the same/similar regime!! xx

Hope you are feeling better, Ali, and that they let you out soon!
Lets hope all those neutrophils do their job and get rid of that infection for you - the I’ve antibiotics should really help.
Big hugs,
Cath x
I Had my first pre surgery appointment yesterday. My surgery is provisionally scheduled for 10th January so here comes the next phase! Hoping nothing delays my last chemo next Thursday. I will be having a wide local excision and lymph node clearance. Forgot to ask the surgeon if I will get any reconstruction at the same time or at a later date. Need an ultrasound to locate my marker and heart scan before end of December, oh and I need to buy a front open crop top bra type thing too.

Cathysid, M&S zip front opening bra or sports bra life savers post operation as you can’t life arms up to get those bra top things on, they also have good arm clearance for node clearance scar and are worth paying for, I had 2 and used one to sleep in. Get a couple of sizes up so if you are 36, go for a 40 as you will be a bit swollen, but the M&S ones are good and still fit ok when your swelling goes. Hope that helps ??:sparkles::sparkles:shi xx

Cathy also Asda do post surgery Bra front fastening 2 pack for £15 they didn’t have them in my local store but I ordered on line for in store pick up x

Depending where abouts on your boob your surgery is and your boob size will depend how you feel about reconstruction
Mine is underneath my boob although I have a long scar and 5cm tumour was removed because I was a d cup I am not left with a big hole or excessively misshapen I know I still have some swelling but I am hoping it’s stays similar to how it is now so I won’t feel the need for a reconstruction op x I currently got everything crossed xx

Hi Cathysid, front fastenening is definitely a good thing. I wasn’t advised on bras at all apart from that they shouldn’t be under wired. I found the m&s one fairly late on and it was good. Can’t comment on the Asda ones as didnt realise they did them. I tried to use a sports crop top at first but found getting it over my head difficult. So would definitely recommend a front fastening one with good armpit clearance. I also use some nice ones I bought in Tesco which are not front fastening but are padded nonwired and have good armpit clearance I think they were £10-£15 for a pack of 2.

Thanks, will get myself underwear shopping!
My lump was 2.5cm and on the lateral side of my boob. There is no lump there now so I don’t know how big a piece of tissue that they will remove! I’m only a B cup so not much there. I’m not worried at all about scars but just hoping not to have a very misshapen boob! I suppose it’s just a matter of accepting it is what it is and being grateful the cancer is gone. Sue - great that you don’t need a reconstruction.
X

The asda ones are very comfy. I absolutely detest the prices that M & S charge for post op bras. And then i read a post from a lady who wotked for them for years and when she went off with BC they didnt pay her. So.much for their wear it pink campaign!! Its all about the money THEY MAKE not what is going to Charity. Sorry will get off my soap box now xx

Hi Cathysid, mine was on my cleavage the lump they removed was 18mm but took 26mm to get good margin as I had quite a bit of dcis. I had 3 nodes biopsied which were clear. I am a b-c cup so not much to play with and it was my smaller boob too (of course it would be, wouldn’t it?) They cut round my nipple to remove the lump so no scarring on boob but they did move breast tissue around and it looks ok. I have a couple of tiny dents and there us still some brown marking on it (had op Aug 7). It did really swell up though and was in the severely bruised category (according to bcn). The op is ok just keep an eye on the swelling as it’s difficult to know what’s normal. As with chemo if you worry about anything call the bcn.

Yes it’s so clever what they can do. Everyone was surprised that they cut round the nipple so I wouldn’t have a scar on my cleavage, not that I wop my baps out much these days ???
