September 2023 Chemo Starters

@daffodil1

I had my Covid and flu jab today, both in the same arm as I have a PICCLine in the other. Next treatment tomorrow so I’m sure that will affect how I feel over the next few days.

I’ve had my jabs too, covid last week and flu yesterday. Felt ok from them. One of the things that’s massively helping me is getting out and about, so getting the jabs feels like a good way to continue that.
Also, I got an awesome real hair wig yesterday someone donated to the Christie when her hair grew back. I’ll share a pic below. I’m cold capping but wouldn’t mind going bald now so I can flounce about in silly wigs. :blush: Might get a pink one too. Anyone else found a good wig/hat? Xxxx

Hello everyone! Loved reading this forum :smiling_face_with_three_hearts: made me feel less alone. My names Mikki :wave: had my first chemo last week on Wednesday. (Locally advanced, ER + PR6, HER2 neg, 9cm tumor) I had covid too but the consultant still wanted to go ahead with treatment….OMG, I was roouuugghhh!! For 6 days, I’m so hoping it was the combo and it isn’t normally so rough for so long. Hope everyone is doing alright! Also love the wig! Looks so good!! I’ve gone crazy with the headscarves and bought about 30, wanted one in every colour cos why not :smiley: still got hair right now, but getting prepared

Hi @daffodil1 just a response to your question about nose bleeds- I had quite a few while on paclitaxol I think because the mucus in your nose gets very thin so you don’t have the usual protection. I found that being very gentle when blowing or sneezing helps, as well as using antiseptic cream on an ear bud gently around the inside of my nose at night. I had a pretty constant runny nose, often slightly pink, but it’s improved a bit since I finished pacli two weeks ago.
In general just rest when you feel tired if you can and don’t be tempted to do too much when you have a little burst of energy! Thinking of all of you xx

Here you go https://www.annabandana.co.uk/product/freya-chemo-turbans-and-chemo-scarf-wine-animal-swirl/

It comes it two pieces, a red hat and then you wrap the animal piece round and tie it how you want, super easy! I think I like 2 pieces more, gives volume :joy:

Hi @mikki90

Welcome to the group. Oh my gosh, I can’t imagine getting Covid and having chemo but the doctors know what is best. The scarf looks fantastic.

Thanks @mikki90 Mikki, ive ordered one of the hats.
Had my first EC yesterday. Had some nausea last night but not been sick. Woke around 2am with a headache but read a couple of chapters of my book and soon went off again.
Managed a walk this morning but was tired afterwards.
Hope you are all ok :two_hearts:

Hi @milly156 glad your first day on EC went ok. I’m on it too, found that by week 2 I started to bounce back a bit. Hope you find the same and both you and your partner are ok (I remember you mentioning he was starting treatment too). :heart: Sending a hug x
