September 2024 chemo starters

Everything I read didn’t seem to say it would happen but my oncologist blurted out “you may lose some more hair, or it’ll thin”.
Good luck with your results.
I’m kind of glad I don’t have to go on phesgo (just had a nerve conduction studies test this morning due to a dose being administered incorrectly and causing nerve damage, and that bloody hurts) but the thought of hair loss AGAIN has given me the willies.

I think Kadcyla is better tbh but I was told at the start only if I have cancer remaining otherwise Phesgo. I restart Phesgo tomorrow no.9. I know some people are on it on a trial on the HNS. I did ask but was told no unless live cancer is found after op and I am private.

There was 2mm live cancer in the lump they removed otherwise I would have stayed on phesgo.
I would have been fine staying on that but I think I have PTSD from the one that caused me nerve damage (especially today after my NCS test).

Hi ladies, i hope you are all doing well navigating your treatments. Im about to start Abemaciclib alongside my Anastrozole in a few weeks. Who else is taking it? How have you found the side effects? Im feeling stressed about the diarrhoea aspect as im back at work. Any tips? Diet changes that have helped?

Hi, I’ve started Abemaciclib 10 days ago. I’m also taking Letrozole with it. So far I only had 1 bout of the dreaded D on Saturday on my way home. It was not a nice experience as I couldn’t hold it. The Imodium worked really well - too well as I’m now constipated. I’m working full time and I’m trying to plan ahead strategies for when I return to work on Tuesday.

Try pure rosemary oil, Sainsbury’s have a really good one which comes up well on the Yuka App. It’s definitely improved my hair growth. Good luck x

Just a quick message to check in with peeps not on Whats Ap group. I am having a mammogram on Wednesday. Eek. I had a CT recently which showed my lung nodules are stable so fab news. 3 more Phesgo injections to go fingers crossed.

Hello Linda. I’m glad to hear everything is going to plan. I had a mammogram three weeks ago. The letter they sent said it showed “nothing of concern”. It takes a bit longer to get the all clear letter because the images are sent to the breast surgeon to check them out.
At the end of this month I have my 18th and final Herceptin injection and final echocardiogram then that will be the end. I’ll be free. I hope my nails recover before Winter and the tights season starts or I’ll rip them to shreds on broken nails.
The best thing is my hair. I love it. All my life I’ve had fine straight hair that needs washing every day now I’ve got masses of thick course curls that needs very little attention. I know they won’t last but I’m enjoying them while I’ve got them.
I think in future a tiny bit of my mind will always be occupied with the thought it might come back but for now I’m OK.

I’m hoping I will get my mammogram results quickly as I’m private. I can’t wait until i’m free at the end of September! It’s the 2nd time for me so I’ve been through all this before. I seem to cope quite well with the fear of recurrence by keeping busy. I may do a Moving Forward course but just want to forget about cancer now to be honest.x

You probably will get them sooner if you’re private. The mammographer said “We’re not allowed to tell you”. I said “I’ll get a clue from whether you send me home or send me for an ultrasound/biopsy”. And she said “Oh no. It’s not like a normal breast clinic mammogram. It will be sent to your Team who review it at their weekly team meeting”.
Do you have the same arrangement for private treatment, ie a Team?

Not sure but they sent the initial biopsy and the op results to the MDT to review. I will ask on Wednesday. My consultant rang me after my last mammogram to say it was clear after a couple of days I think. I had a lump near my lymph nodes under my arm so it only showed up on the ultrasound and CT.

That’ll be another perk for being a private patient, faster results. Another thing - the feeling has come back under my arm. I thought it was going to be numb forever and I couldn’t feel a thing when I sprayed deodorant on. But all of a sudden it’s all back to normal.

I have pain at the back of my arm at the top so was advised to start exercises again. I will mention it on Wednesday. Hoping it’s just my body recovering. I still have a seroma too. Hoping she will drain it again too.

How do I join the WhatsApp group please

Hey all, so good to hear from you. I have my 17th Herceptin injection on Monday and then only one left. I get so many aches and pains still and get soft tissue injury so easily and also have just re-started my post surgery exercises.
Also please can i check re mammograms. I was told my mammogram would’nt be until 1 year post surgery, not diagnosis. Can i check are you one year post surgery? I was diagnosed 2 August 2024, finished chemo 7/1/2025 and surgery 8/2/2025. If i shoudl chase my mammogram I will xx

Looking forward to my 18/18 Herceptin jab next week, and had first 1yr mammogram last week, 13 months after surgery. Just keeping busy whilst waiting for the results.

My mammogram was 31st July 2024 so I was told to book an appointment in August 2025. Surgery was Fen 25. Last time I had my mammogram a year after the last one when I had symmetry surgery or I could have had it a year after my first surgery as I had mammograms before both surgeries.

If you send me your e mail address I will try to get you added.
