September 2026 chemo starters

@leopardfett how are you getting on? Had my first round of EC on the 18th and starting to feel human again now though my mouth is horrible and I am dealing with an inevitable outbreak of cold sores ( I always get them if my immunity is low )

@moonsox My urine went bright red immediately on EC when I went to the loo during treatment! The nurse had warned me and said I obviously had very efficient kidneys for it to happen so fast, it was back to normal by later that night. What colour does it go on docetaxol?

@sunflower86 thanks for the tips with the hoodie got one on order! Good in winter on chemo day. Picc is sore and dressing on it is huge so don’t think that helps. Fit pre chemo chat today so hoping they can sort the dressings.

@whataloadof oh ok I knew more risk with the taxol but hadn’t realised be ok with EC. I was hoping actually for first one just try the cold caping and just wear the compressions socks and gloves. Has anyone else used compression socks and gloves and no cold packs out of interest?

That’s good tip on ice. I’ll get some ice lollies to take with me then and my thermals to wear . X

@coffeeandme Just get lollies you never want to enjoy again as I definitely had nausea while that was happening & can’t look at a lolly the same anymore! I did compression socks & gloves & ice packs?! Bit ott in retrospect!! Anyone icing definitely make sure you have something between the ice gloves & your hands & feet as the first time I used fingerless compression gloves & pretty sure I gave myself ice burns on my fingertips?!

Hi everyone

A late joiner to this September group. I was diagnosed with TNBC and my chemo treatment will consist of 12 weekly Paclitaxel with Carboplatin and Immunotherapy every third week. Then a further x4 EC every 3 weeks. I have also been given 3 filgrastim injections per week.

I had my first session last week, and have been quite worried that the weekly cycles won’t give me enough recovery time as it has wiped me out with fatigue and nausea, but I’m beginning to feel a little more myself now on day 5!

@coffeeandme I wear compression gloves and socks with my SuzziPad ice gloves/socks. But as the session was long I did end up with just the compression gloves/socks on. Hoping they’ll help to minimise any neuropathy.

@scribbler how are the cold sores..? I’m beginning to feel mouth ulcers coming and been using mouth wash and salt water but if worsens may need to ask for something! I’ve been taking paracetamol and an antihistamine with my filgrastim at night, and the bone aches haven’t been too bad.

Hello @ffrost day 12 post chemo and I seem to be on top of the cold sores finally, I have been applying Herstat ointment every couple of hours and being very careful not to touch them otherwise, I am going to ask if I can take L-lysine with my next round to try to head them off at the pass too x

I was hoping to do just compression gloves and socks, but I’ve just had my second weekly paclitaxel and both times the cannula was in my hand so I’ve only been able to do it with one :grimacing: I imagine that would be the same with ice gloves too

I haven’t had any nausea but my gut is a mess and has been really bloated and crampy. I usually eat a lot of high fibre and raw food so I’ve had to rethink my whole diet! Currently living on porridge/stewed apples and root veg soup to try n calm things down!

Also on days 3-5 my hips have felt like they were in a vice and i could hardly walk. I thought they might tweak something with my treatment but they’ve just suggested paracetamol

Any recommendations for helping these symptoms greatly appreciated!

I’m hoping it might have been the extra trastuzumab injection making things worse so currently hoping for a slightly better week :crossed_fingers:t2:

Hi @wizzer are you taking Loratadine at all? There is evidence that it can help with bone pain during chemo. Also seems to be some stuff around improved prognosis! I am taking one daily now.

Hi @derry1

I was given an intravenous antihistamine but I’m not sure what one - should have asked

I take a 1/2 cetirazine tab every day all the time as I’m histamine intolerant but I’ll try switching - thanks so much

@wizzer hi I have popped over from th August group, re your bone pain if you on the 7 injections speak with your team as I was changed to a 1 injection course which has made life a lot more bearable. Still get some pain but not crying in pain. Xx

Hi @titch1 thankfully I haven’t had to have daily injections yet :crossed_fingers:t2: My blood numbers actually got higher after my first treatment! They think the pain is from the Paclitaxel.

@scribbler I realised that you’d also said about the loratadine as well and I’d completely forgotten  I’ll definitely try it!

Thanks guys

Good morning all, hope you are all having okay weeks.

Had my second infusion yesterday and it went smoothly. After the steroids didn’t seem to do a lot for me (except giving me indigestion) last time, they’ve omitted them this time and have put me on Olanzapine instead.

So far so good. Managed a decent sleep last night and am groggy this morning. Am on hair watch this week. Nothing much going on there so far except a bit more shedding than usual. Shame this bloody moustache won’t bugger off. I’m refusing to cream it out of principle. Knowing my luck it will be the only hair that stays

@wizzer I haven’t been on here for a while, but I had my surgery on Tuesday which went well. Ended up going with the Nipple Sparing Endoscopic Mastectomy with implants, and once I had made the decision I felt very happy and relieved it was the right one. I prayed to Dolly Parton that my implant journey would go well! Trying to spend the week taking it easy and recovering.

I’m sorry to hear you have been having some rough symptoms from the Pac. I also was very achey at times in the hips, and my calf muscles were so sore all the time, my legs felt like jelly (still recovering). They say some gentle stretching/moving can help, but I could barely get out of bed when I felt like that, though did try and do some if I ever felt up to it.

Thinking of everyone else here x

Hey @rhombusrhombus good to hear from you again and that your surgery has gone well so far :crossed_fingers:t2::heart:. It’s always a big relief to feel like you’ve made the right decisions when going through this crazy sh*t!

I’m starting to wonder whether I should have taken my chances rather than start this chemo :squinting_face_with_tongue: Bunged up again after my second round on Tuesday and had another nasty migraine yesterday. My team decided not to change anything after the first week despite my side effects, but I’m going to have to try something different next week :grimacing:

Currently awake as my chest is still really sore after the echocardiogram on Wednesday for the trastuzumab baseline check. Having an ultrasound probe pressed over your scar for 40 mins was not fun  and paracetamol isn’t helping - although seeing my heart valves flapping was pretty amazing at least!

@derry1 I’m also wondering when I might get some hair loss  Not looking forward to any extra housework so hoping the beanies will keep it contained! It’s bad enough with the cat:black_cat:! Good luck with the moustache

I’ve started taking the loratadine so crossed fingers:crossed_fingers:t2::crossed_fingers:t2:the bone pain is better this week. It started on Friday last week so I’ll report back

@wizzer My next round is next Friday so I am going to try the loratidine then too :crossed_fingers:t2:

I am feeling pretty good at the moment, being off the anastrazole while I have chemo means my energy is better. Looking forward to a productive week before it all kicks off again

@wizzer hope the pain has settled!

I have a giant dog and a cat so I’m not sure any shedding from me will even be noticed! And it has started in earnest today . I have pretty thick hair so it’s not too noticeable looking at my scalp just yet.

After feeling pretty good Thursday/Friday, yesterday was the worst day I’ve had by far. Could barely lift my head most of the day and everything was sore. Today is better but my limbs are so heavy and am quite lightheaded. Have been sorting out the kitchen cupboards to accommodate a new dresser and have to come and sit down every 5 minutes

I hope everyone’s weekends are going okay

Xx

@derry1 sorry you’ve been feeling rubbish :face_holding_back_tears::heart:

I’m also having a horrendous time on the Paclitaxel  I thought it was meant to be a ā€˜gentler’ regime, but although the aching hasn’t been so bad with the loratadine, i had another worse migraine on thursday and my gut has completely screwed up! I’ve already lost 2kg and it’s like ive become allergic to food - everything is causing cramping/gas. I also feel shaky and wiped out but I think im just weak from lack of nutrition.. Has anyone else had this??
I can’t see being able to carry on unless they can sort it out as even liquids are causing gurgling. I think it’s not helped by the anti nausea tablet shutting everything down for a couple of days after each treatment

I phoned the ward on Friday and they recommended eating what I fancy :woman_shrugging:t2: and they’d try giving me something like movicol, but i think it’s gone beyond that :grimacing:
