Hi lovelies;
I had a single mastectomy and 5 nodes taken out which were clear 12 days ago all went well however at my 10 day check up I had developed a seroma to be honest it looks like another breast has grown! It’s not too painful and range of movement still fine, it’s still fluidy ( not hard) not red etc. but gosh it’s disconcerting to see a breast when it took me a good while to get my head around the fact that I would be losing one! ( I was/am small sized breast). Nurse was happy with the wound and said they weren’t keen to aspirate due to infection etc and to leave it to re-absorb. Ladies with any experience of this how long does it take/ anything I can do apart from wearing a tight sports bra?
Thanks lovelies xxx
Must be rather disconcerting to see “a breast” when you’ve just had one removed. My seroma was under my arm along the sentinel node scar. They drained it once but it just filled up again straight away . It took about 3 weeks to be re-absorbed , disappeared overnight , was a relief as it was very uncomfortable .
Totally disconcerting!!!’ Good to know it will eventually go down and thanks for getting back xxxxx
Hello Joyousjen, It’s weird isn’t it. I too had a little mound after my mastectomy and found it very disconcerting to gently press the lower part and see movement of fluid like a water bed! My surgeon took fluid out twice over two weeks but took so much out that I now have little concave dips with the skin right up against my ribs so maybe it’s good that yours wants to leave well alone! Take care and I wish you a good recovery. Love from Tulip x
Seroma (alien breast) still there - gets a bit sore at night but it doesn’t seem infected. It’s still going strong day 15
