Seromas

I’m partly cross posting, as there don’t seem to be many active posts on this. My seromas are post WLE and axillary clearance, so I don’t know how far this applies to post Mx or reconstruction seromas. My surgeries were in October and November of last year and I had large seromas which were drained several times. I’ve finished chemo and rads; the swelling in my breast has never quite gone away so it’s not just from rads.

I’ve just had a chat with one of the lovely BCNs (who assured me that she remembered me–is that good or bad?) regarding my ongoing seroma and thought the information might be useful.

I was going to ask if any possible draining could be done in a week or two because of the remaining discomfort from rads, last session last Thursday. She said they wouldn’t want to for at least a month if not longer, because of the internal inflammation from the rads and that they wouldn’t want to risk making things worse. She also reminded me to phone if any worrying SEs arise.

Her advice is either cheap soft sports bras in a larger size or a support vest. I’m visibly larger on the op side, I’d estimate 2-3 cup sizes. This isn’t quite as bad as it sounds in terms of swelling, because the other breast is a size smaller than it used to be following a WLE 2 years ago.

Isn’t this fun? Best wishes to all still undergoing treatment, with hopes that all your seromas are little ones.

had mx march and had a large seroma. advised to leave it alone-this delayed radio by two weeks and i still left it alone. Saw plastics last week who said it is now an encapsulated seroma and he will sort it out when he does the recon in nov
this appears a very common problem…cant wait for it to go away !

It probably makes sense to deal with your situation during the course of scheduled surgery. Mine wasn’t bad enough to delay rads, but it adds to the discomfort and makes it difficult to go braless for very long.
