Shingles or an allergic reaction to Tamoxifen

I have a rash on my back under the scar from my recon. I went to the doctors last week and put the idea into his head that I may have shingles as I have had it before. He thought it did look like shingles but I am now wondering if it is an allergic reaction to Tamoxifen.

Is that possible a year later has anyone else had the same problem?

I am beginning to wonder if I have an immune system as I have had all sorts of infections apart from breast cancer!

Hi Merlyn, I have been on Tamoxifen since I finished chemo at the end of October 2007. In January my arm felt especially sensitive and I put it down to “fallout” from 6 weeks of rads in Nov/Dec. A week later the rash appeared and my GP diagnosed shingles and prescribed me a course of “horse pills”. This is the first time I have has shingles but I think it’s not unknown in people with supressed immune systems.

Hi Jolanday

I am pretty sure I haven’t got a problem with Tamoxifen, I think I am simply feeling very sorry for myself at the moment and shingles is the final score.

Thanks for replying.
