Should I be concerned?

I went along to my appointment at the breast clinic today for a lump in my armpit, both the ultrasonographer and consultant were talking quietly about what it was showing and then told me it’s a 10mm solid lump which she thinks is more than likely benign, however she then did two biopsies. One on the lump and one on the area just around it. I go back on thursday next week for my results.

My question is, would she have bothered with a biopsy if she really was adamant it’s benign?? I thought I’d get a nice simple answer today of it either being worrying or nothing to worry about but this is doing my head in now! The time they spent looking at it just makes me wonder if there was maybe a hint of doubt but she was just trying to reassure me.

I hate this waiting!!

Hi Beckie89

I’m sorry to read that you are having a worrying time at the moment. I’m sure the other users will be along soon to support you.

In the meantime if you need some extra support or to talk through how you are feeling do give the BCC helpline a call. Here you can share your concerns with a member of staff who will offer you emotional support as well as practical information. The free phone number is 0808 800 6000 and the lines are open Monday to Friday 9.00 to 5.00 and Saturday 10.00 to 2.00.

Best wishes Sam, BCC Facilitator

Im sure they probably only want to be certain to give you the correct result and I know this week will be the worst of your life but you must try not to worry I know its easier said than done but try not to.
all of the ladies on here will understand as we have all been through it some of us are fighting it some are coming out the other side but we all have one thing in common we are fighters!

Hi beckie89
Being in the waiting room is the worse time. The biopsies are done so that they can see what the lump is made up of, so whilst it’s likely to be benign they still need to know what it is.
Good luck on Thursday. I will be thinking of you. Let us know how you get on xx

Thank you for your replies, only today to get through now, thankfully this week has been filled with other appointments so seems to be flying by. It’s amazing how much our brains mess with us in times of uncertainty! xx

Good luck for your results x

Hi Beckie, not long to wait now… hope you get good news!
I’ve had a lump since November and a follow up needle test in February showed atypical cells so they’re taking the lump out in a couple of weeks so it’s not shown cancer but it’s not right, so just because something feels benign, they still have to fully research it as they’d rather do too many tests than not enough I guess!
Take care x

Hi Beckie89
Hope you got ok yesterday was thinking of you xx
