I found a lum in my left breast in January of this year and went to my doctor, who had a feel and told me it was likely to be a cyst. She checked it again in March and nothing had changed. It is still there now and is still round and hard. I dont want to go back as I feel I am just wasting her time. My question is should I be asking her to refer me for other tests or should i just trust her judgement.
Get yourself back to the doctor and ask for a referral. It is the only way to put your mind at rest. Hopefully it is nothing to worry about but you HAVE to be sure. We have a friendly club here, but, we hope you don’t have to become a member.
It’s your body and you have the right to know what is going on. You are clearly worried otherwise you wouldn’t be posting here.
GIve your doc a call in the morning. Good luck and come back and tell us how you get on
hi jacquie
yes please go bk to your doc and get it refered to the breast clinic, you need to be sure and this is the only way it can be fully dianosed
so please go bk, i pray it is a cyst and if its fluid they will drain it while your there hon, no pain
I ditto what Sharon and Cee have said. You MUST go back to your docs and get this seen. You need to know what the lump is and hopefully it is just a cyst, but they cannot let you go without being sure as it is no good for you to be permanently worried.
Let us know how you get on and I pray and hope that all is well and it is something very simple.
Hi Jacquie,
If your still worried about the lump i would ask for a second opinion or a referel to a breast clinic for further tests ,if its a cyst the clinic will be able to drain it for you quite easily. At least then it will put your mind at rest. Most lumps 9 out of 10 are benign so try not to worry to much. ( i know thats easier said than done)
Hope this helps.
Best Wishes
Lindiloo .
Jacquie,
I would definitely go back to your doctor and ask for a referral to the breast clinic. It really is the only way to know for sure what the lump is.
Hope you manage to get an appointment as soon as possible tomorrow.
I totally agree with what everyone is telling you, dont be fobbed off. Not being funny but how the hell does a GP know just by feeling it?? Most GP’s are not experts in this field! Get a referal.
Hopefully it is nothing to worry about, but its much better to know for sure.
Thanks everyone for replying. Had an appointment with my GP yesterday to discuss my worries and she says the lump is still there (which I already knew) and has put me on a weeks course of antibiotics (erythimycin) and told me to go back on 17th September. Sorry to keep asking questions but why do I need the antibiotics again when she already gave me a course of the same ones when I first seen her about the lump way back in January. What are the antibiotics supposed to be doing for me?
Thanks everyone for listening to my worries. Jacquie
I was also put on antibiotics when I first went with my lump. I had a feeling it wouldn’t clear it up as i just because I have had so many lumps before. However my doc thought the lump could be a gland or a cyst swollen due to an infection and wanted to try the antibiotics first. After the week was over the lump was still there so I got my referral to the breast clinic.
So I guess in some cases they work and others they don’t. I am not a doctor but I would think that if this same lump you have had is still there for all these months then perhaps it’s not an infection. My doctor assured me that even after I finished my antibiotics if it was an infection it would go away within a matter of days. Is there another doctor you could see? If you aren’t happy then it is more than worth getting another opinion tp put your mind at rest.
sweetie go bk to the practice and say its all very kind of you to give me antibioticss but please to allay my worries could i please be refered to the breast clinic so i can know for sure that its nothing sinister
if your doc refuses then change docs babe,
dont be waffled off cos its just making the lump more of an issue
I totally agree with everyone else - go back to your doctor and insist on a referral to the breast clinic. Your GP cannot possibly know what the lump is!! I had a first mammogram in January and was diagnosed with first stage BC and needed surgery and radiotherapy. My lump could not even be felt - it was only picked up on mammogram.
Please please get yourself checked out properly and let us all know the outcome.
