Hi guys, so sorry i haven’t got back to you, my internet has been broken for a while. I managed to go to the doctors last week, again got a casual response that its nothing to worry about and to just keep an eye on the lump. The good news is the pain in my breast has gone since i had my period this month, so it was just a hormonal thing. Still not convinced by the doctors, but nevermind, i should be happy they werent worried x
The pain has gone but what about the lump? It is not the pain you should worry about. If you are not totally convinced I strongly advise getting another opinion and NOW.
I agree with Olivia - get it checked !

Just found this thread. I have an 18 year old daughter, and whilst breast cancer is hugely unlikely in someone so young, it is not impossible and I would be frantic if she was in your position, not doing anything about it. I know I’m speaking as someone with breast cancer, so maybe that makes my daughter more likely to get it, but there was no history in my family till I got it, someone has to be the first.
You cannot trust GPs on this matter. The only way of knowing for certain is to get a proper diagnosis at a breast unit. I have a friend, diagnosed at 43, who had been fobbed off for two years by her GP, saying it was nothing. I don’t want to scare you, as it is so unlikely that you have anything to worry about, but you would never forgive yourself if you were that one in ten thousand (or whatever the odds are) and had ignored it.
Just checked the earlier threads on the odds - for someone under 25 the odds of getting breast cancer are 1 in 15,000. Someone has to be that one.
Insist on a referral to the breast clinic and don’t be fobbed off. My Gp and nurse said nothing to worry about too. Only one sure way of finding out and that is to be checked out by breast clinic. You are young yes and your life is precious. A proper check will put your mind at rest and you can get on with life and enjoy it. Best wishes

I’m going to join in and say you MUST insist on a referral to a breast clinic. Do it as soon as possible. OK the chances that it’s cancer are very slight but it IS possible. Don’t let your GP fob you off again - just insist - it is your right to be referred.
Take care and let us know what happens.

Hi Jaykay,
I don’t post that often anymore but just pop in and out for a look. I felt I had to post on your thread to urge you to seek a second opinion and have a proper examination and biopsy taken as per the guidelines for anyone with a Breast lump. I had a tiny lump that moved around and being a nurse I thought that this meant there was nothing sinister going on. I went to the Drs who said it was a Fibroadenoma but referred me to the Breast clinic anyway. There I saw a Breast Surgeon with 30 years experience who also said it was a Fibroadenoma but done a biopsy of which I got the results in an hour. That day I was diagnosed with Breast Cancer age 30 much to the shock of the Surgeon who was convinced it was benign. Despite the lump being tiny it was very aggressive and another tumour was also found and there was extensive disease in my whole Breast. It had also spread to my lymph nodes. Eighteen months on I have had a Mastectomy, Chemo, Rads, Hormone Therapy and just had my Reconstruction last month. I am currently well but thank God every day that against my better judgement I went to the Dr, who against his better judgement referred me, and, against the Surgeons better judgement, he done the biopsy or who knows where I’d be today. I also want to add that at 19, yes you are young but not to frighten you but to make you aware - I met a girl who was diagnosed at 20 recently. It can happen.
Go back and ask for a referral, take care, C x
