Shrinking tumour with hormone therapy

Really fed up - been on letrazole for 4 months and tumour feels the same size. Has anyone had any success with tumours shrinking with hormone therapy. Surgeon is now talking about a possible mastectomy. Finding it really difficult to make decisions about what to do.

I’m no expert by I think they hope leyrozole will shrink the tumour AND mop up cells around it before the op. I think we have to put our life in the hands of the experts and trust their judgment.
All the very best xx

Thank you Carolyn xx

Hi Tuli,

Sorry to hear that so far you have had no response to Letrozole.  I also took letrozole to shrink my tumour, and like you after about 6 months there was no response - but after 9 months the tumour shrunk by 50%. There are some studies carried out in Edinburgh which states that 9 months is the optimum time for a response.  It was more than a year until I had a lumpectomy, which was just over a year ago.  I rarely come on this site now, but when I saw your post had to reply - I know how stressful it is, but hang in there if it is what you want.  The radiologist told me once that I should be having chemo, instead of hormones - but I was adamant and my consultant supported me, and was amazed at the final response!
