sickness & indegestion

Hi, had first FEC treatment yesterday and have felt unwell since. Had to go to A &E last night. Luckily ECG, bloods and chest x-ray clear. Still got tightness in chest with lots of belching and sick twice this afternoon. Have been prescribed Lansoprazole 30mg by my GP and started taking one this evening. Spoke to doctor at Marsden this morning, who said this is quite normal. Still feeling not too sure if this is norm. Perhaps you could enlighten me. Many thanks Pam

Hi Pam

Poor you! I had my first FEC yesterday and seem to be feeling a bit like you (nowhere near as bad though). The anti-sickness drugs don’t seem to be doing much (I’m on Domperizone/Dex). Hope you’re feeling better soon

Hi Pam and Vicky,

Due my second FEC this friday and trying to put some of the things in place that were useful in my first (racking my brain too as i was all a bit of a haze!) I wasn’t sick but felt quite sick/yeuchy for a good week, however…

-Drank only hot water, haven’t had milk for three weeks, this felt good and I drank LOADS
-Took ondansetron just for the treatment and the day after, then metoclopramide for about 4 days after. I believe they worked for me very well.
-Ate lots and lots of greens and fruit, (help with loo situation!), chopped up and room temp (couldn’t stand cold)
-Started on Immunace for my vitamins, and Acidophillus for my gut day three (ordered online express chemist)
-SAt up in bed to sleep (bought new pillows and took a flask to bed with hot water in it, which eased burning throat in night)

Just you watch, this next one will be completely different!!

Best of luck guys,

Nina

Pam,
I suffered indigestion after my 1 FEC and was prescribes omeprazole which sort it out quickly. As for sickness and nausea, I had it bad after 1 FEC (3 days of being sick and constant nausea) but it got easier with 2nd and 3rd FEC.

But everyone is different.

Hi Pam

Lansoprazole 30mg are good but if you suffer with any diarrhoea then you may be best switching to omeprazole 40mg. Same drug group but working in the medical/pharmacy industry, I know a lot of patients complain of diarrhoea with lansoprazole. However! If your chemo makes you constipated (anti-emetic ondansetron causes this) it may double up as a laxitive for you.

Nearing the end of chemo, I have found that it has been a case of trial and error finding out what works best for me and with just one treatment left I have my side effects sorted… finally!

All the best
