My Mum has just had her 3rd herceptin and has been experiencing some feelings of dizziness and a ringing in her ear. An ENT specialist has checked her ears and said there isn’t any problem with the ears and so now she is going for a brain scan next week, which has scared me to bits.
We just wondered if anyone else had had similar whilst having herceptin. She also is suffering with extremely achy joints but I know that can be a side effect of the chemo too.
hi michelle

I have been told, and it was also on the consent form that dizzyness can be one of the many side effects from herceptin, so try not to worry too much about your mum.
I sailed through herceptin with no side effects at all. I am 56. How old is your mum? I can’t think that herceptin alone can cause dizziness, or achey joints.
I posted a similar request for info at the weekend.
I had my 13th Herceptin last Thursday and immediately felt dizzy, head achy, sore joints and very very tired. This was the first time I had experienced this.
I phoned the nurse who advised I saw my ONC before the next Herceptin. Well I saw her on Tuesday, she said that it is unusual to have symptoms like this after so long but, as this drug is relatively new to the market for non advanced BC cancer there are no long term studies available to be sure of all side effects. I sort of wanted her to send me for a brain scan but in my gut I felt the headache was as a result of the drug rather than a spread to the brain so I didn’t press for a scan.
I did get a reply on my thread from a lady who had also experienced these symptoms after her 12th Herceptin.
The leaflet that accompanies the drug gave out these symptoms too.
I feel that your mum has has side effects and the ENT specialist is just erring on the side of caution.
