I have had a bunged up nose since starting herceptin as if I am going down with a cold if I blow it there is blood in it. I have heard that you can get a snotty nose but this is so uncomfortable and tiring. feel like sinuses bunged up any one else like this thanks Eileen
Hi Eileen
I have now done 13 Heceptins and have suffered from the runny nose, bunged up nose, snotty nose and nose bleeds. It has got better as the treatment has gone on. I used vaseline when my nose was really sore, dry and crusty, it also helped prevent the nose bleeds. Have you had any other side effects I have had dry eyes, acid reflux, indigestion, constipation, low white cell count, anaemia and sore finger and elbow joints. Don’t you just love this stuff!!!
Still only five to go and counting.

Hi Geraldine I have had heartburn as well have sore fingers as norm as have arthiritis in them and can’t even turn pages on a book some days altough they have been worse since the start of herceptin. There aren’t many posts about side effects with it so wonder if it’s unusual Not constipated though thank goodness thanks for replying love Eileen
I know this isn’t a particularly helpful comment - but I have been on herceptin now since Feb 2004 and don’t seem to have any side effects. Who knows - maybe I have just got used to it! I do have a major problem with cramps/spasms and am also on pamidronate. I guess it is just as well I don’t have too many problems as I am on it for the long haul. I hope for those of you on the one year that these symptoms will soon be behind you.

Oh bloody hell Dawn it works well for you doesn’t it so hope that it doesn’t mean if you have got symptoms it’s not working lol thanks for your input you never let us down love Eileen
Hi Eileen
I too suffer from a runny nose and have nose bleeds when I blow it. I also suffer from a cough which seems to get worse as each day goes by. My chest and lungs are clear. Does anyone else have this problem and if so have you been given anything to relieve it. I did get a linctus from my GP but it had no effect. I don’t want to stop the Herceptin as I only have 5 more treatments to go.
Margaret
I had a really bad runny nose with the first 3 or 4 cycles and it has now tailed off to the point I have it for the rest of the day and maybe the day after treatment, then it goes again. When I had it all the time I looked like a cocaine addict!
I asked my onc about it and she told me this was the thing everyone was compaining about when they were doing the trials. She said some patients have it all the way through treatment and with others it just tails off. Thankfully it’s the only problem I have had so far, I was very tired with the first couple (but I had been in hospital for a week post chemo), now I seem OK and am able to just get on after my treatment. I am on number 9 tomorrow. I have it done at home in my livingroom whilst I am having a cup of tea, it’s a lot less stressful than going to hospital.
My onc warned me that I might have a runny nose for a year. In fact my nose runs some days and sometimes there’s a bit of blood there as well.
My other side effects from the Herceptin are muscle stiffness and some pain. Also I get very tired and if I sit down anywhere for long am likely to fall asleep.
Take care
Love Anthi
