Had my first taxotere on Wednesday and am in agony ! Coped well with the fec part but this is just awful ! Taking gabapentine and paracetamol, is there anything else that anyone can recommend? Also does it get better when the injections I have to do finish ?
Hi Shirleymaud,
It could be the GCSF injections that are causing the pain. It stimulated the bone marrow to produce white blood cells and that can be excruciating.
“According to the package inserts, bone pain associated with filgrastim and pegfilgrastim occurs in 24% and 31% of patients, respectively.3,4 However, some believe that the actual clinical incidence of bone pain may be higher than has been reported.”
What I personally found best for this was the antihistamine Claritin and also Benadryl if that didn’t do the trick.
“A case report detailed the successful use of the second-generation antihistamine loratadine (Claritin) to treat G-CSF–induced bone pain that was resistant to NSAIDs”
(both quotes from)
Hi Thankyou for that advice , wondered if it was the injections! Everything hurts to move , I will try the Claritin , not sure if I can take ibuprofen as well as the paracetamol and gababentine but will call the nurses tomorrow to check x
