Silicone Prosthesis and radiotherapy

I got my silicone prosthesis last week and was really looking forward to wearing it. When i started radiotherapy this week though i was advised not to wear it for the length of the treatment and for 4 weeks after in case it rubs. I can’t see why it would be a problem as long as it’s in a pocket and not touching my skin. has anyone carried on wearing it during treatment and been OK?
Thanks

Hi I have just finished radiotherapy a few weeks ago and found having the softest prosthesis poss was the best for my skin but I did start with a kind of itchy rash after two weeks and reverted too the first softy I got when I came out of hospital just a cotton thing with cotton wool inside. With all the creams and the ink from the radiotherapy I needed something I could wash but I am OK now and I hope this helps…OH and a B.C. Nurse gave me some cream called Flamazine for the itchy sore days that happened 2 weeks after the treatment stopped …Hope this helps…

Thanks Abby. guess I’d better play safe and stick with the softie.

A different experience - I wore a silicone prosthesis throughout, and have continued to do so (I finished rads 6 weeks ago). I had no skin problems at all beyond a little pinkness. However, do be warned that if you get felt pen on the plastic covering, it does not come out!
